I used to really like Madonna, but she's been disappointing since her reinvention tour. Madonna went from being a singer to a performer, she uses lymp sync throughout her show and built a career based on controversies about sex and religion. Today I find her completely irrelevant and sometimes even despicable. Madonna is a singer who works in the studio, but live she's a failure for those who understand music. She's just the best marketer.

Britney talks about this video in her book. She says it was a masterclass from Madonna. Britney says she used to be that kind of gal who would take matters into her hands, so when Madonna told her she had a wardrobe malfunction the first instinct was to run around trying to find a way to fix it. Madonna said “you’re the star of the video, not the producer. Let’s just hang around while we wait for a seamstress to fix it”. It was the first time she understood all that was for her. She says “Madonna demanded power, and so she got the power. She was the Center of attention because she made that the condition of her showing up anywhere”. It was a three day shoot, out of which Madonna was present in the first two. Madonna would then have an important role in ending Britney’s conservatorship by financing the lawyers to fight for her freedom 😊

“me against the music” was released as the album lead single. I remember hearing it a couple times on radio as a kid. People really remember Madonna and Britney together for the VMA performance more so than this collab. The real big single from this album was Toxic. This song was a minor hit.

Both were at the peak of their craft here in 2003 in the pop music world, when Madonna obliged Britney in this collab following their iconic MTV VMA performance with Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott. The song was the lead single released from Britney’s 2003 In The Zone album with Madonna and Britney co-writing this song with 5 others. They complemented each other’s style so well in this video, I felt that symbolically Britney was chasing Madonna for the “passing of the torch”, following her footsteps but when she finally caught up with her-Madonna disappeared laughing, perhaps hinting that she’s not ready to retire yet. But I think, with Madonna deciding to work here with Britney, she was mentoring her and acknowledging that Britney is one of the young female pop music idols that she admires. Madonna throughout her iconic career has believed in an “artists’ collective”-sort of a community of artists collaborating and helping each other whenever their interest were mutually in sync. In her album projects, music videos and tours, she has invited, collaborated with both established and lesser known artists from singers, writers, producers, dancers, directors, often mentoring younger artists. In recent years some of her collaborations: March 2022-with Sickick remix of Frozen; August 2022-with Beyoncé in Break My Soul/Vogue (the Queens’ Remix ); June 2023 with The Weeknd and Playboi Carti in the video of Popular. Her influence in popular music and culture is truly amazing. I share in your glee and insight in reacting to this video. Really appreciate you covering this one. 😊❤

@@RockinDaBoombox It was originally Britney doing a Slave 4 U P2 (Slave 4 U wasn't about a guy it was her being a slave to the music, she said it in interviews) so this is her again trying to OUTdance the music. When Madonna joined they let her be the Music character. It's a great concept.

Great reaction as usual. Curious to hear more of your reaction to M’s ability to stay relevant. This is 20 years into her career and her second career “slump” after erotica. She was making strategic moves to stay current and relevant. And she succeeded. From this point she is masterful at retaining younger fans and the media consistently interested. Would love to hear more of your thoughts on this since it was not something she had to contend with previously.
@OurAnxiousReactions3 ай бұрын
Aww, thank so much! ❤️❤️ One huge advantage Madonna had at this time (20 years into her career) was her endless creativity and desire to constantly explore new ways to convey her art and message. And that just seemed to come naturally for her. Strategically, she seemed to appreciate the mutually beneficial nature of collaborating with newer artists. It allowed her to share her wisdom and experience in the industry with the next generation and gave her the ability to introduce herself to that generation as well. Creativity, talent and intelligence is a very powerful combination! ❤️

I prefer the American Life singles to this but the video was allright. IMO it was Britney at her peak as a dancer, artist and at her most beautiful. A few months later she married for the first time and it all spiralled out of control from there :/ We still got Nothing Fails and the Love Profusion video from the American Life era for a more artistic side of Madonna. This was a bit of a throwaway pop/ R&B track made for MTV but i dont think it was the huge hit they had hoped for. Peaked Top 40 in the US

Hello Ladies, I have reservations about this video. I don't believe they were actually ever on the same room together. Even though it seems it you only ever see one of their faces when they are jumping and rolling around in that room. I believe they filmed their parts separately and edited it together. It's just the way I always see it. See if you can see what I see. Either way I love the song, and Madonna was always a vocal champion of Brit. Happy to pass the torch as they say. Hope you are all doing well. Take care and have the day you deserve. ❤️ Mark.

I'll be honest, as a fan I didn't like the music video, more specifically Madonna's camera shots. After years we discovered that Paul Hunter, the director, fought with her during the recordings due to creative differences. I think that in the editing he got revenge by choosing the worst takes of her, making her look older than she was at the time. Anyone who is a fan knows that Madonna never uses certain angles of takes that he used there. Brit is beautiful, the music is good too.

I always wished this video featured Madonna dancing with her own troop of dancers, like maybe doing a dance-off with Britney and her group. Seemed like a missed opportunity. Britney had all the dancing moments and Madonna basically did a series of yoga poses.
