Yeah Gaynor there was no ejection seats in World War II, and Kamakazi pilots wouldn't have used them. The Japanese firmly believed if you didn't give your life in such a situation you were without honor. Any failure meant shame to them.

The Japanese were also brain washed by false propaganda, the Japanese were convincing their young soldiers that American troops were recruited from mental asylums and prisons and that they would do horrible things to Japan and it's people if America won and because of that it was a lot easier for them to convince their soldiers to kill themselves by way of Kamakazi.

I knew bits of the story, and of course, as soon as he showed the photo, I knew who it was and that he died in a big mission, and in fact, "Aphrodite" rang a bell, but I didn't know exactly how Joe had died. Yes, as someone said, although I don't believe in curses, Joe Sr's sins (and they were many - talk about a fascinating story!) were rained upon his children and grandchildren and so on. The family is (or has been - I don't know a lot about the current generation) convinced that they have a right or I suppose one could say an obligation to Old Joe to keep that legacy of fame and power going. They are uber-privileged and have a sense of entitlement (I'm painting in very broad strokes here) and seem to think they can behave however they want with impunity.

Do you all realize that Joseph P. Kennedy, the father of "Joe" and John, was US Ambassador to the UK from 1937 to 1940, but in 1940 when Britain was already at war but the US wasn't, father Joe was brought home because he had become all too pessimistic about Britain's chances and a little too cozy with Hitler for President Roosevelt's tastes, and after that they became somewhat hostile towards each other.

Ha you can recognize the guy is a Kennedy straight away, and it’s reasonably well known the JFK’s older brother Joe died in WWII, and it’s too noticeable that Mr Ballen carefully withholds the last name.

Actually knew some of this story with Joe. That he was the darling of his father. Then Jack was put in the lime light with what he did with his PT boat. And getting his crew back to safety.

The horrible luck of the Kennedys. Joe died in an unnecessary mission bc of faulty wiring, John was assassinated as president, Bobby was assassinated while running for president, JR was killed in a freak plane accident. Just nuts. If I was RFK right now I’d be paranoid AF.
