Keep in mind. The scene with Tommy The Clown and dancers is a “Cake Walk” the knock used is called “Shave and a haircut, 2 biits” which is a secret knock that slaves used for all kinds of things, including the e Underground Railroad. Cake Walks were a party slave owners would throw and have slaves do all sorts of stuff, in the spirit of Simon Says. The winner would get cake. Which is obviously something they were never allowed to have, even though they were the ones making them. So he really leaned into the “colonizer” verse with that scene. Notice when they are all leaving the final shot, they are “shucking and jiivin’.”

@haphduzn612 this is really important detail thank you for highlighting- we have heard of cake walks before and secret knocks but did not know that particular knock was related to protection and communication for enslaved peoples. Kendrick really thought the visuals through, every scene and every person and object placement has significance.

@@DivergentWizdom he’s brilliant. It’s strange getting to witness this level of genius in real time. I’ve always thought he was the most innovative emcee, with the best catalog of all-time. But to see him perform in a battle like this, when losing would’ve made us look at him differently, to step up and be willing to get petty and disrespectful. I feel vindicated.

That dance was also a way that slaves would mock their owners

Hi from Colorado! I saw it when it dropped on July 4th, and my jaw was hanging open the whole time. Everything about it is masterful, the way he let the visuals say so much more than even his words can. The unity of the red, white, and blue working on multiple levels, the power of the allegiances in the appearances, even the subtlety of the way he moves emanates confidence. Literally everything!! WHITNEY!!! 🪇😂

@EddieLove thank you for your perspective! What is Kendricks best response during the back and forth in your opinion? We think the message Kenny is sharing is generational and taps into the us and them dynamic of colonialism and capitalism in a way that resonates beyond just straight battle rapping. Sure Drake got some jabs in but Kenny held a mirror up to the vacuousness of celebrity and that is something Drake buys into- celebrity and elite status.

He only did 17 push-ups because Drake doesn't like females over 18. The thing he did with his fingers in that scene was from an Instagram Drake dis with a little girl. The picture is on the floor backwards because it was for the white party that was going on when he dropped the video. Their invitations to the party were pictures Kendrick didn't go but Drake did. He dropped it during the party people started watching the video. That's why Kendrick was waving. He was waving and laughing at Drake.
@DivergentWizdomАй бұрын
@monicam1548 MOUTH OPEN. MIND BLOWN. Good Lordt what in the world...so the invitations to dodgy white parties were paintings? AND HE DROPPED THE VISUALS WHEN PEOPLE WERE AT THE PARTY HE DIDNT GO TO SO HE WAS BREAKING THE 4TH WALL TO THOSE PEOPLE AT THE PARTY??? The 17 push ups is diabolical surely!! Drake has been so quiet for so long Kendrick really got to him.

Kendrick opened it up so you can't be copyrighted showing the video. So you could of played the whole video.
@DivergentWizdomАй бұрын
@monicam1548 unfortunately the audio and the visuals are now copyrighted. the lift was only for a short period and for specific reactors who have huge followings as they have special deal with record labels and KZbin so they can stay monetised. That's why we had to cut the video even more than planned and why it's taken so long for us to upload. we have had to redo and recut a dozen times to comply with youtube's copyright. we are really sorry if it hindered your viewing experience

TDE is his old label Drake claimed that was against Kendrick. There are a lot of famous people in the video when he is dancing. If you listened after the names, you would of heard the man telling the crowd to back up. The owl is a predator that's why he locked him up. He is saying Drake is a predator. And owl (Drake) doesn't see the bars, but we do. Kendrick gets all his money. Drake is is signed to a guy, who is signed to a guy, who is signed to another guy ...
