Running from any of those predators would be your last mistake
@willvr4
@willvr4 Ай бұрын
Yeah, remaining calm and never running is the rule of thumb with any predator. Even a polar bear. (although your odds in that situation are slim to none) The second you trigger the prey instinct, a predator will come after you. Easier said than done though, for sure. These wild-life photographers have been in enough situations to know how to react...aka, NOT react.

Precisely! They're instinct is if something runs from them, it must be prey. If it doesn't, it might be a danger to them.

@@kayeruss7313 Exactly. Even if you're technically smaller than it. Eye contact too. Make contact, then look away, don't stare. But don't turn your back.

Kevin Richardson (the lion whisperer) has an amazing story--the BBC did a documentary about him 20 years ago. He has since purchased land for his own reserve. All of the lions he raised--he built relationships with each. The other animals he has taken in as rescues. He has a unique perspective on animal conservation. I hope you can react to some of his videos. Addicting.

I kind of cringe when narrators call humans ‘a new friend’ to wild animals. Wildlife are not a Disney movie. So often in social media platforms, when this kind of thing is shared , the comments are ‘ I want one!’ ‘ Look at the floof !’ But, it’s very cool that professional wildlife photographers can capture their beauty with respect.

You can see the fences. Those wolves were in a wolf sanctuary, so they're ery familiar with humans. The bear mantra is: If it's black, fight back If it's brown, lie down If it's white, kiss your ass goodnight.

There is a place on one of the African reserves where the cheetahs will come and cuddle with you in the night. You wake up with two or three large cats sleeping with you. One of the kind place to up close with wild cats.

In all instances of bears, you make yourself look bigger and you yell. A friend of mine went on an Alaskan cruise that included a land tour. The tour bus they were on stopped near a trail where they had just seen a brown bear, which is also a grizzly bear walk across the road and go down the trail. The tour guide, then got off the bus and the people were supposed to follow him down the trail, but they were concerned about the fact that they just seen a grizzly go down the trail. The tour guide told them if you encounter a bear, make yourself look bigger and yell at the bear, but if you encounter a moose run.

09:23 It's a Cameroon Sheep, not a goat. Look at the tail, the upper lip, and the horns to tell the difference, generally. (Sheep tails are longer and sweep downward, they have a 'harelip' that helps them forage grass [goats prefer to forage on shrubs and trees] and sheep's horns are generally longer, but curl back in a sort of spiral shape. Goat horns are usually shorter, and point relatively straight upward.)

The rhino reminded me of that scene in the old John Wayne movie with the same species. (Hatari; 1962) I've seen footage of a park somewhere in Namibia where it's possible to pet cheetahs which are completely tame. The unnamed cat species with Boris at around 16:15 was a serval. At 22:29--tahn-ZAHN-ee-uh for tan-zuh-KNEE-uh (Tanzania)? I don't believe it! Back in '86, during a trip across Europe with a Eurail pass following a tour of Israel, I met the Barbary macaques in Gibraltar. In the same section, 'miss-CHEE-vee-us' for MISS-chih-vuss? Unbelievable! Do not trust a lion encounter at home? In my city in northern Illinois? Not likely.🤨 There's an adage about bear encounters: black--fight back, brown--lie down, white--say good night. Ugh! It's MAR-mut, not MAR-maht (marmot). Also, the lady at around 31:45 is breaking a longstanding rule--don't feed wild animals. It may not apply in the same way to a marmot, but in many cases, large animals end up being killed as a result, because of being habituated to associate people with free food, and eventually causing trouble to the point of causing dangerous encounters, to the point of injuring or killing an innocent person months or years later.

It's a myth to play dead to a brown bear/Grizzly bear. Your best bet is to run like a rabbit and zig zag. They can't shift their whole-body weight like a human, but never try the "play dead Idea.

10:51 this is misleading. Kevin Richardson doesn't do this with fully wild animals. These animals are all in his wildlife sanctuary and he raised them all from babies. He's always very alert when dealing with them and never pushes it further than the animals cares for. He's alert to cues when the animal has had enough interaction for the day. On the whole, though, those animals love him. He's done a lot for animal conservation and has a KZbin channel created to help spread awareness for the plight of lions and their dwindling numbers in Africa.

Bears are super dangerous when angry, yes, but the number of bear attacks is so low that they are listed by incidents per decade rather than per year. As long as a person is respectful, observant and keeps their cool, the bear is likely not going to do anything. There are exceptions, of course, but most people will get a rundown on bear safety before hiking in bear country. An attack is relatively easy to avoid and if an attack happens, surviving it is quite possible if you do the right thing. Though bear attacks are fairly rare, deaths by bear attack are much more rare. On that first one, the lovely lady asked if maybe he had already eaten. Bears don't generally predate on humans. They prefer other things like fish, berries and already dead carcasses. There are, as I said before, exceptions but it's extraordinarily rare.

It's not lucky to survive a cheetah, the cheetah knows where you are before you know where it is and if it gets close to you or lets you get close then you're fine. They are quite literally scaredy cats but have overwhelmingly trust humans, they trust humans more than they do any other predator

Running is absolutely the most stupid thing you can do, because that triggers the hunt instinct in PRETADORS and even the harmless, small Meerkats runs faster than you so out running a loin or a wolf well good luck, DO NOT RUN, Secondly always keep you eyes towards the predator that indicates that you have seen it and that they can not do a surprise attack. Now those think were for PREDATORS let´s talk herbivores and they kill far more people than predators around the world if a buffalo, hippo, rhino charges you you RUN and hopefully up a tree because these guys will out speed you anytime of the day!, herbivores do not act as a predator and will often continue to actually go full out attack mode while most predator will not if you follow the advise, I was born in Africa and I am a biologist and a safari-guide so I know my stuff, always make noises so the animals can hear you before they see you, but that is ofc in contradiction to a nature filmmaker so you must know what animals you are filming because a lion will react differently from a leopard and an elephant will react differently from a buffalo and never ever approach wild animals that have young, what would you do if a wolf comes towards you child, go figure! So run if it is a herbivore or omnivore BUT never run if it is a predator. And never surprise an animal of guard thinking it is better to be quiet most animals will try and leave humans if they get a head start, ofc there is much much more to it as for the great apes e.g a gorilla, never ever look the silverback (the male leader) right in the eyes that is challenge for him as the protector of his family and you just picked a fight with his authority. but as I said you must know how to react to different species and groups of animals, do your research, I have encountered lots of dangerous situations , running from rhinos, keeping still with lions etc if in doubt keep your yourself in the car especially when it comes to predators because they think you are part of the machine e.g much bigger that you actually is, and if an elephant comes charging your car DRIVE, DRIVE because the car can not save you if it gets hold of it. But ofc the best advice is knowledge and if you do not know or have a guide, biologist or other person with the right education with you stay far away and admire these animals from a save distance via a pair of binoculars. And do not be fooled just because it is a small gazelle or antelope just because they are pretty and cute they can kill both cheetahs, leopard, lions depending on the species and herbivores are much more difficult to read (behaviour wise) than a predator.
