Mr. H......I know it's been mentioned before, but not everything is a "dip" in the US. Salsa's are made to be poured into your tacos, burritos, etc.....or over your enchiladas, tamales and such. 😊

I'm living at my 34th address (including a brief stay in England) and I currently live in Colorado (for the third time in my life), but I've lived about 24 years of my life in Texas (21 years in the San Antonio area, and 3 in the Austin area), so it blessed my heart hearing shout outs to San Antonio. Hearing references to HEB, puffy tacos, fajitas, chorizo, salsa, etc. just took me back to my favorite memories of Texas. I've literally been around the world and in my opinion the best restaurant IN THE WORLD is Paloma Blanca in Alamo Heights in San Antonio (hi Ruth and Luis!!). The Crema Liguera Poblana soup is the best soup EVER, the beef Enchiladas Tradicionales are to die for, and no one serves more flavorful borracha beans.

The ma and pop places are the best and they'll always be leagues above the chain spots. Especially if it comes to a specific kind of cuisine - such as tex-mex or mexican in general, or any other places (thai, southern dishes, any cuisine.) Taco bell is wildly different than any local joint. If it helps you sort things out in regards to what's what in the future- "con papas" means "with potatoes". Puffy tacos are puffy because they're fried, and a fajita is the stripped grilled meat with onions, peppers and the like within the tortilla. As a side note, salsa and the like are usually poured on rather than dipped (the exception perhaps being with a bowl of fresh tortilla chips). Makes things easier!

We in the US are very lucky and blessed to be able to have access to real Tex-Mex and Mexican food. There is a mom and pop place here in our city where the salsa and fresh home made tortillas are out of the world. Once you experience the real deal, Taco Bell just cannot hold a candle and is really a let down. I feel so sorry for you guys because now you will forever dream of the good food we can get here.

You guys should try "aguas frescas" any kind.... Horchata, Jamaica, Limon, melon, Sandia,, Fresa,, they are all soooo amazing.... Love you guys' channel....

I hosted a family from Missouri that was out here in Texas for an American Chemical Society conference. Their daughter ate nothing that wasn't stereotypical middle American food. Every meal we ate out was at the most uninteresting restaurants. On the last night, we went to a local taqueria. She sat there picking the cheese out of a quesadilla. I ordered her a horchata. When they brought it out, she stared at it like it was a glass of raw sewage. Her parents made her taste it. Watching her face go -- involuntarily -- from a twisted up grimace of disgust to a smile was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Corn tortillas are more common with lunch or dinner tacos and flour with breakfast tacos but I've noticed over the years that the NON-Latinos typically like flour torts over corn. My wife is Finnish-Swedish-Norwegian and she also prefers flour torts. Chorizo and egg tacos are a staple in my family for breakfast. Fried corn shells like puffy tacos are another cooking method of corn torts. My obviously mixed children grew up on it and funny enough, each time they've made them for friends, the friends love them. I had the parents of my son's friend, who was 10 at the time, told me that their son had chorizo tacos at our house and had bragged about them so much I had to show them how to make them

Yes that green herb was cilantro. The meat, onion, and cilantro combination is very Mexican and is to me is the best. Also those were flour tortillas. Most of the time an authentic Mexican taco has a corn tortilla and it is very seldom a "Taco Bell" crispy tortilla. They are a soft yellow corn tortilla that has been heated on a flat top, griddle, or frying pan with a little oil. They are half-way between crispy and soft.

Sad that chorizo here in England is different from Mexican 😭 5:49 this is a standard beef fajita taco with grilled veggies The first one just looks like a carne taco with cilantro and onions (which is basically a authentic Mexican taco if u switch the flour for two corn torillas ) My favorite breakfast taco definitely gotta be chorizo egg potato cheese ! @@Mrhandfriends Sure! Being in England atm I made tons of Latino dishes, I even was able to make birria by using short ribs from asda. For salsa, broth etc I ordered my Mexican peppers (árbol , chipotle, ancho etc ) from a guy on Amazon called Pete Chili’s. It always came fresh and never disappointed me with taste. If I make taco/burrito bar, I make the basic mex stuff •Pico(basic salsa ) : diced plum or vine tomato, cilantro, onion (purple or white ) ,lime, salt and jalapenos (if wanted). •Salsa roja (red salsa ) take 5 árbol and 2 garlic cloves, quart of white onion , 4-5 vine tomatos and 1-2 (depending how hot u want it ) jalapeños on a hot skillet. When they get char on both sides/soften take the tomatoes and árbol and blend in a blender then add the onion jalapeños and garlic along with 1 lime (squeezed) and coriander (for this add like a couple of stems not to much) then add salt !!! Salt is a need ! Then u can blend the rest , you can also ass onion/garlic powder in if u want . Guacamole: Avocado,, red or white onion , clintro, lime salt and jalapeno or any pepper if you want then smash together •if u want fajita meat, the best steak to use is skirt which is traditional but if u can’t find it , u can use any other thin steak u find, then chicken is just sliced chicken breast. (Fajitas are strips so u cut them in slices) u can use any taco seasoning u can find or make your own by using salt, pepper, cumin, oregano, garlic powder ,onion powder, paprika, olive oil (Put a splash of beer and lime with it if you want some real juicy flavors lol) let it marinate Then cook on skillet, grill, pan whatever you like then sliced steak or chicken • u can make ground beef with potatoes (papas and meat/ Picadillo) use taco seasoning or salt pepper cumin oregano garlic/onion powder U can also do shredded beef and chicken (chicken is easy u can boil it or sear it then add a broth then close lid, wait till it’s tender enough to shredded then add basically the same seasonings from the others or a taco seasoning packet . ) for beef I know how to make birria but it’s a whole other recipe list that I would be happy to share if wanted . U can also make grilled shrimp(use Cajun seasoning like Creole ) quesadillas burritos taco which are sooo good. Then u have choices for standard breakfast which are bacon or sausage or refried beans with eggs cheese or potatoes. U can make any of this stuff into tacos or burritos. (For refried beans I order it online from my favorite brand for jalapeños called La Costeña on Amazon, the refried beans are the best out of any brand I trained since I been here ) U can also add brisket to tacos and burritos ! Add rice or black beans or grilled veggies

@@Mrhandfriends for basic birria meat (aka best shredded beef u will ever have) For the sauce I used two vine tomatoes, the Mexican peppers (7-8 árbol, two ancho, 7 guajilo and cut and deseed all of them), a head of garlic , a quart of onion , two bay leaves , 6-8 peppercorns, I bring it to a boil in a pot of water which after it softens I throw all of it in a blender and add cumin , thyme , and some orgeano •I use short ribs since it’s hard and expensive to find a good chuck roast I use about 6 short ribs in a crockpot which I added more of the seasonings I used in the sauce including one bay leave and two bouillon beef cubes to boil with the meat • I boil the meat for about three hours till I strain the sauce into the pot and boil it for another 5-how many u feel like it (the longer the better ) Which after the meat is tender I will take it out to shred then put back in to soak up all the broth flavor for about 30 mins • the family I’m with doesn’t like corn as much so I did use tortillas and made quesadillas with mozzarella the ones that did I made tacos with corn torillas by dipping the torillas in the broth (consome) then putting it on a skillet with mozzarella cheese then add the birria meat then fold , I then open the taco and add cilantro and onion with a side cup of the consome to dip in. My spouses mom said it was one of the best flavorful meat she ever eaten

Cilantro contains a number of volatile aldehydes that are also in soaps and some bugs. A variation in the OR6A2 gene effects the binding these compounds on the olfactory receptors. This is suspected to correlate to an aversion to cilantro. Chopping, crushing or cooking releases an enzyme that breaks down these compounds. Your experience of cilantro can change. When I first encountered it in a fresh table salsa in Texas, I thought the blistering heat of the outdoors establishment had made the stuff go rancid. Forty years later, I can't detect the soapy taste, except in banh mi and pho where it is used unchopped.

Americans just see the food and dig in. // side note: tacos aren't dipped into salsa, you open the taco and pour salsa inside taco, or 2nd option is pour salsa on to taco before each bite. But we never dip tacos, well only one style and thats birria tacos (because of the consume it comes with) but thats the only exception. // Love following along your texas trip.

I prefer the corn tortilla for tacos, the closest to a puffy taco I’ve had is an Indian taco (pueblo taco, Hopi taco, Navajo taco, etc.), which are fantastic! That’s the kind with frybread and taco ingredients on top. A loose flour tortilla for a taco just makes me think of an incompletely folded burrito- which is also fine because it’s all about the flavor!

My Oglala family gets in fights with my Dine' friends over which tribe makes the best fry bread. Then there are the fights over Blue Bird vs Gold Metal. Or hole no hole... LOL. If you've ever in the Four Corners area, you need to try a mutton sandwich, which is strips of mutton and roasted green chile folded in fry bread. Up north you have to have berry pudding and fry bread. For our friends across the pond, in the Tucson Arizona area fry bread is called popovers. You can find it in restaurants in the area. You can also find it in stands and food trucks in south Tucson. The market at the Mission on the Tohono O'odham rez can be a good place to score some fry bread.

Glad you’re enjoying the food in Texas! Go to Mi Terra in downtown San Antonio for the a good lunch/dinner. Great fajitas, margaritas and a bakery. Taco Haven is also really good for breakfast/lunch. Enjoy! Guevos rancheros, with barbacoa tacos are a must.

Nice looking food, glad you enjoyed it. Tacos can be flour, but are usually corn. Puffy tacos are where the heat of the oil/lard causes the corn tortilla to actually separate and puff out; they are really enjoyable. As many have said, “pour and don’t dip”, but you just do whatever pleases you ❤️

I love to see how Mr and Mrs H use the salsa as "dips". Next time drip the salsa over your tacos you guys, it will save you the work of trying to keep the stuff from falling into the salsa. Cheers from San Diego!

1:36 that looks like a standard carne asada taco with the flour tortilla instead of corn, they are solid, and delicious, they use a diced onion and cilantro mix on top. "Fluffy" tacos do exist, I've had them in California and New Mexico, they're typically called, "Indian tacos" Or "Navajo Tacos" It's many of the same flavors and spices, but they use a special type of dough that puffs up called "Fry Bread" They're used in tacos and also as a dessert, being fried, then dusted in powder sugar and drizzled with honey. It's very similar to "The Chalupa" from Taco Bell, but 100X better.

The penultimate one is the fajita taco. The last one is indeed the puffy taco. The herb is indeed cilantro. Normally, one would pour salsa into the open taco then close it again (after fingers testing for heat). The green salsa looks to me like tomatillo salsa. Fresh breakfast tacos are a way of life for me. You make me feel lucky every day you're in Texas.

Couple of tips: -try squirting a little fresh lime on the tacos and the salsa and lime is magic - when you want to find the best authentic mexican food, find the mexican food trucks that has a crowd around it (sounds weird, but sometimes theyre found at/near truck stops, when not in the urban areas - you can search for them online most of the time)

Here’s the good part. You can make one of the best breakfast tacos in your kitchen! It’s super simple and surprisingly excellent considering it’s simple ingredients. If it sounds strange, just try it. I guarantee it will be one of your favorites just like it’s one of ours. Very popular! Bacon and egg taco. Ok, flour tortillas, bacon and scrambled eggs. Put cooked bacon and egg in the warm tortilla and top with Pico de gallo. What is pico de gallo you say? It’s a very fresh relish type topping for your taco! Cut up these ingredients into a smallish dice, small enough to go into your taco. Tomato diced, raw onion diced, about the same amount each. A fresh, raw, chopped jalapeño pepper to your taste and some cilantro which is like a very slightly spicy Mexican parsley chopped. Don’t worry about it if you can get it, the dish will still work without it. Stir all those fresh veggies together in a bowl and generously garnish your taco with it. It sounds weird but it’s really, really good. Oh, I like to drain some of the juice from the pico de gallo because you don’t want your taco to be leaking juice everywhere. Enjoy! 🌮🌮🌮 Believe a TEXAN! 😄

These guys made me hungry thank God my mama taught me how to make tortillas since i was 8yrs old and i make my own chorizo I think I'll make me some Tacos de papa con chorizo better yet papas con bacon and gravy in a taco that's even better. I think i have never been more proud to say i love my Texas, and thank God I'm 100% Mexican/American. I'm Latina and proud. I moved to Michigan, but i can still have Texas anywhere i go because i can cook. i even smoke my own brisket, so not even thousands of miles could take Texas out of my heart and out of my diet i already have the Tamales ready for Xmas eve and the hot chocolate and for new year I'm making menudo and barbacoa i must of left Texas but Texas didn't leave me.
