Mr. & Mrs. H. My Mother said the BEST most FLAVORFUL Chicken Soup comes when the chicken you use is the Dark Meat...mainly Thigh and Drumstick meat. Remove the Skin from the pieces to cut back on the fat, but use the rest and simmer until the meat falls off the bone. Remove the Chicken meat from the pot and cut into Bite-Sized pieces, and return to the pot and simmer until all the Veggies and Noodles are done.....Enjoy!😊 BTW...To help speed up your recovery...double up on your VITAMIN C and ZINC! Known fighters of Viruses.....which is what "Colds" are! Cheers!

Well done Mrs. H, you did a fine job! As for Mr. H. keep yourself hydrated with plenty of fluids and do rest as much as possible. As for my other favorite soup, I do love me a delicious French onion soup or a Spanish/Mexican style beef soup with chucks of vegetables in it called 'Cocido" (Co-ci-do, pronounced as Ko- see- doh),I use both Spanish/Mexican because I am aware the origin is from Spain but some of the Mexican restaurants here have it on their menus here in SoCal. The ones we see in some Mexican restaurants here use bone in beef shanks which makes the soup/broth very flavorful, and it can be very tender when cooked right. Any garden vegetable, cut corn cobs cut in thirds, carrots, wedges of cabbage, onion, garlic, bay leaf, squash, zucchini, and yes celery. Oh, I forgot a garnish of cilantro or parsley if you don't have cilantro. I am just going by memory of what I have ordered at restaurants, I never made it, but it does taste very good. We have seen variations of Cocido at some restaurants, some add slices of fresh avocado to garnish which I found odd at first, but I liked it. I do hope you all feel better soon. Take care of yourselves. Peace. ☮

In the United States, especially in the north east chicken noodle soup is known as Jewish penicillin! It’s good for you because the chicken adds a lot of protein which the body needs to heal. While the rest of the ingredients add a lot of vitamins. But,one thing that you can’t skimp on to make it extremely powerful Against whatever you’re sick with, is garlic. Lots of garlic!

The Americas Test Kitchen cookbook is a great resource and cookbook! Great choice! One thing to note with chicken noodle soup.. is if you want left over chicken noodle soup for the next day, cook the noodles SEPARATELY because if you leave the noodles in the container or jar for the next day, the noodles will absorb most of the liquid or soup! But if you are planning to eat all of it in one sitting then go ahead and cook the noodles in the soup itself. But I think the thin noodles that Mrs H put in will be okay and not absorb as much of the liquid the next day such as if you used wide egg noodles. Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup uses the thin noodles like Mrs H used in her soup! When sick.. it is common to use crackers with soup rather than bread but both crackers or bread is good.

You can simmer the chicken in stock or water on the stove too with seasonings and it makes stock too. Simmer the chicken until done. I take it out set aside so it doesn't overcook. Boneless skinless thighs are great, too. Set aside while you fix the rest of your soup. We just had norovirus in our family so I made this. If appears too salty you can add some water to pot.

This is very popular and is something most American's grew up with. This is one of the first soup's people introduce their kids to. It's very common that people who have an aversion to a vegetable, such as celery, discover they're fine with it in this soup and possibly need to try that food cooked different ways. After all, it may be that the first time you had something you didn't like, you actually didn't like the specific way it was prepared. That is such an empowering principle to teach kids but a very difficult thing to get them to understand. My cousin was a terribly picky eater when he was little. One day, when I realized he was being picky about mashed potatoes and he hadn't had them before; I pointed out, "That's ok, I love mashed potatoes and while I've never met a kid who doesn't like them, if you don't eat them, there will be more for the rest of us!" I also explained, he might be missing out on his new favorite food but if he really doesn't like them it's only 1 bite in his life he has to suffer through." Suddenly he wanted to try them, discovered they are yummy and always wants lots when they're served now. Food is a funny thing.

That’s mostly what I do, but with a couple differences. Brown the chicken more snd get a nice golden brown color. The browning of proteins is called the Maillard reaction. It adds an incredible layer of flavor 1-2 additional minutes per side would’ve made a big difference. Then once the chicken was browned, remove from the pot and put the onions in. Use the moisture that comes out of the onions to deglaze. Cook the onions until they just start to get a slight color to them. Then add the carrots and celery for 2-3 minutes. Then put the chicken back in continue the recipe like you did. The maybe 10-12 extra minutes would add so much more depth to the flavor. Another thing would be a little lemon juice right at the end. Not enough to make it taste like lemon, but a bit of acidity will really brighten up the flavor

Mrs. H, I don't like celery either, but I LOVE it in soups! You might try doing what I do and that is to use celery salt! I would think you could find it there. Simply sprinkle in the flavor the celery imparts without fear of accidentally biting into a huge chunk of celery in your baked goods. I add celery salt to almost everything, including egg salad sandwiches and deviled eggs! Chicken noodle soup is always our families go to when anyone feels a bit under the weather. It warms you from the inside out, it helps to immediately unclog the sinuses and opens the lungs and helps to move the crud out.

We call it "Ho hoy si". If you'd like to try some, I could send you some via Post, all I'd need is your address/Post info. I like your videos very much and have been watching for quite sometime, all the way back to when it was just "Mr. H". I'm currently living in a little rual town in Arizona called Florence, but the name of the village where our "Home" is, is called "Hotevilla". I hope your sickness passes quickly, and look forward to more of your videos. If you'd like something more spicy, try making "green chili stew", it's the "Southwestern" version of "chicken soup", (no noodles) and the green chili's are high in vitamin "C". You can make it with chicken, pork, beef, venison, pretty much any protein, except maybe fish. Thanksgiving is coming up soon, maybe you could do a video on Thanksgiving.

Soup recommendations: beef and barley, matzo ball with chicken and garlic...... When I make chicken noodle soup I use wide egg noodles, garlic, onion, carrots, celery, 2-3 potatoes medium cubes, and to start I'll boil a whole chicken (fryer). By boiling the whole chicken you wind up with a hearty, properly fatty, broth with the flavors of garlic, onion, celery, carrots and spices (your choice I use s&p, poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, and rosemary). It'll be a bit of work to pick the carcass clean but you will have both dark and white meat (hand pulled) in your soup. While picking the chicken apart, you can start the potatoes on a low to medium boil, and when done 'pickin the chickin' (lol) toss the meat back into the pot, bring the pot to a rolling boil and add the egg noodles. Cook them to al dente or until they freely flop around hanging from the spoon.

Yes we do like buttered bread with most of our soup. It goes so well together. Chicken and dumplings is my favorite.

I love broccoli cheddar cheese soup, french onion soup, creamy chicken and rice soup, and stuffed pepper soup. All served with warm crusty bread and Kerrygold butter.

Bone in chicken would've def made it a 10. I always make this after we've had herb stuffed roasted chicken. I save the carcass and the next day simmer it for a few hours then take the carcass out and strain the broth. Then you could add the rest of the ingredients. One of my favorites ❤

Try this same recipe with turkey as well. Like after Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey dinner. My son makes a wonderful turkey noodle soup, his home made broth is amazing!

@pinky2245 I definitely will! It would probably be good with potato gnocchi instead of noodles.

Chicken soup is definitely the GOAT for when you are feeling sick. My go to is beef and veg stew with a lot of tomato paste to thicken the broth into a sauce like consistency. I think it works so much better to help you feel better faster. I also like to have a cup of broth in the morning instead of coffee when I have it

Slightly thicker ( thickened w cornstarch I think ) chicken noodle soup served in a bowl made out of a small loaf of nice crusty bread hollowed out for the soup , so you eat the entire bowl is a standard carnival food in my neck of the woods

You should look into fire cider for colds. I make chicken soup but I use a ton of onions, garlic and peppers. The onions & garlic are natural antibacterial and peppers have vitamin C and helps clear the sinuses. It works pretty good. We are having minestrone soup that our daughter's fiance made.

When I have a cold, I make my soup slightly differently than when I'm healthy. Healthy way is close to what you did. My sick version I add a good bit of (fresh) garlic and a dash or two of cayenne. The cayenne opens the sinuses. The garlic is a natural antibiotic. Besides, between the two, it makes for a stronger flavored soup when your taste buds are dulled by your cold.

My favorite soups are chicken noodle, winter or summer; split pea with ham; stuffed green pepper soup, and cream of potato. Your video here made me very hungry!

When I was sick, my Mom always made me either cream of mushroom soup (which is my favorite) or grilled cheese sandwiches and cream of tomato soup. When I'm sick now, they are my go to meals.

Feel better, H family! This week, I made a potato leek soup. Chicken corn chowder and Italian wedding soup are family favorites. Sheet pan roasted tomato soup with cheese tortellini is a personal favorite. I typically make my own chicken bone broth for the freezer so I have it on hand.

Nice work! I hope you feel better soon, as well! Chicken noodle is a staple. You can also substitute out the chicken for turkey! I recently learned a new recipe for a really creamy ground turkey tortellini soup recipe with a broth that's based around tomato and coconut milk! It's very hearty and warming to me. Chili is also very warming and hearty and feel-good in the winter.
