Saw Silverbullit(aka Citizen Bird) cover this in New York when they supported Soundtrack. Their version rocked a lot more, it must be said, but this is pleasant enough.

the song "you turn my head around" you actually do hear some of her higher notes. So she still can hit them she probably just chooses not to. in the behind the scenes she said she actually had to bend over to hit some of those really high notes. I'd imagine it was a strain on the voice. keep in mind she was only Jem's singing voice she was not Jerrica's speaking voice. Samantha Newark did the speaking voice.

If I was Britta it would make me crazy reading comments from people expecting her to sound just like cartoon character she provided the vocals for in the 80s. The cartoon songs, while catchy, lacked any degree of sophistication. There's a reason they only went for about 30 seconds each.

Yeah but the material for Jem (which I personally love) is nowhere near as sophisticated as this type of music. Maybe she's just more into subtlety these days. You don't necessarily have to have a big blow out powerhouse voice to be a good singer or to make a good song. But I do agree we haven't been seeing her full range of talents.
