I would be absolutely heartbroken if my cat even got out the front door and ran down the street. I have a tag on her collar that has my phone number on it (and a warning that I might be crying on the call), just to AVOID my pet getting lost or hurt. I might even feed her too much because I don't want her to be hungry. The thought of someone PURPOSLEY abandoning and starving their pet is absolutely sickening. Anyone that actually loves their pet would be just as sickened by it.

I once had a kitty that showed up at work one night. For the next few days, she kept using my car as shelter from the sun. I finally decided to take her home, get her cleaned up, and then take her to a shelter. However, I was new to the area, so I was having a hard time figuring out where to take her. Then I realized that a hurricane was getting ready to hit and it would be hectic at a shelter afterwards. So I figured I would just wait. So, anyway, Wendy is now 12 years old and is currently yelling at me because I was suppose to fed her six minutes ago and how dare I make her wait! 😂

Animals are part of the family. Take care of them and they'll take care of you. I don't live with my parents anymore so rarely get to see her, but my almost 15 year old Cavalier has been spoiled her whole life and takes care of us in return. After my surgery, she was so gentle without seeing any dressings as it was cold so I was in long sleeves. Same deal with my mum and her surgery 2 years ago. My little girl learnt to alert to my mental health episodes before they started and when the episode would start whether it be a panic attack, crying, mania, trauma episode or a psychotic episode, she would stay by my side 24/7, direct all of my attention to her by nuzzling me for pets or booping my face if I start crying, she'd cuddle with me at night even though she prefers sleeping on tiles in her old age and she'd even sleep on my lap on the couch for long periods even though I'm very smol and not as comfortable as the rest of my family. She did the same to my brother when he was grieving the deaths of lots of his friends who were in a major accident. She's not specially trained to do this, she's not a service dog. She just loves her humans because that's all she's ever known.

Whenever he's asked about the worst cat from 'My cat from hell 'he always says it wasn't the cat misbehaving, it was the human who didn't want to be bothered understanding WHY that cat acted like that. I got a black cat who was 2 years old. When she got older she got Diabetes. I learned to inject her insulin. When her arthritis got bad. I put in stairs and a ramp for her, I took her for acupuncture and medicated her for it. When she could no longer stand and showed me she had enough in this world. I carried her to the vet myself. I stayed with her to the very end. 12 years with her. Not a moment would I ever consider abandoning her. I did sometimes wonder if it was getting too much for me but with her age I did not think she would have a better chance in a shelter or rescue. So I kept going, I kept looking after her, loving her. I miss her every single day. My black void was a very special cat. I wish I could have another 12 years with her. Do it all again. Pets are not disposable. They are family members. From arrival to final moments, you should care for them. If you can not, do the right thing for their future. Work with a shelter or rescue, do not just abandon that family member. I am glad the Billing department is doing well. What are their names? I only remember Automo-bill and porkchop? If I were closer i would adopt a void.- there is a black cat shaped hole in my heart at the moment.

He had INSANE energy when he was young. I was scratched up and chewed on constantly. I cried so often from frustration and fear that I couldn't handle him and would need to rehome him. But you know what I did, at the ripe old age of 16? I took him to obedience classes, where we constantly had to stand away from everyone while he screamed at me and tried to chew on my ankles. But then he learned, and our relationship got stronger, and he stopped mouthing and jumping on me all the time. We did another round of classes, just to be sure he knew how to do the things, and he passed with flying colors. He is one of the best things in my life now. That's what you do when you commit to having an animal. You do everything in your power to make it work. And if it doesn't, you make damn sure that they end up in a loving home that is equipped to handle whatever issue you couldn't.

I love you so much. I am a volunteer application screener for a cat rescue in PA, my crime junkie brain loves deep diving into people and their ability to care for animals and making sure our rescued kitties find their forever homes. There was a poor kitty, a 2yo Himalayan, who came into our rescue. Her owners bought her from a breeder. They were upset that she was scratching their furniture, so they had this poor kitty declawed. She then started peeing everywhere, likely because she was in pain and, imo, her owners are awful people and she was picking up on that vibe. They took her to be euthanized, at 2 years old! Fortunately the vet they took her to reached out to us. She was assessed by our vet and was deemed to be perfectly healthy (no UTI, etc.) and she quickly found her forever home with a sweet widow. If you are able, please consider volunteering at your local animal rescue. They are so important!

I got my dog off Craigslist. Many years ago before I found out how sus it was, she needed removing because she wouldn't stop chasing chickens affecting her livelihood and they tried training. She is a little escape artist so I can't leave her unattended in the yard, but she gets plenty of exercise and socialization and she was well care forced and fixed before I got her complete with medical records. I kept her name. The lady had a heart attack two weeks later. I sent her a picture of Katie and she was so happy to see her happy and said we came at the the right time due to her heart attack. So it can work out, but best to stay away

God, this is so upsetting. I had to rehome my dog a few years ago because my disability got worse and I was no longer able to give him the exercise and playing he needed and deserves. Sadly darker colored dogs are not adopted as much as lighter colored dogs. What is wrong with people? The black cats, people are superstitious, but why on the dogs then? People are crazy. But being superstitious is an incredibly lame reason. The billing department is beautiful and I’m glad Swoop took them in.

I have a special place in my heart for black kitties, or voids as I call them. I think it's horrible how some people still believe they're bad luck. They can be so sweet and loving and if I could adopt them all I would. I have my own sweet void who'll be 15 years old in May. I don't even want to imagine my life without her. I rescued a Norwegian Forest Cat named Snowy in November. He was surrendered to a vet and the vet couldn't find a shelter with room, so the manager of my local shelter called me as I was looking for a long haired cat. Initially a "shop cat" so I could practice cat grooming on him. If no one took him he would have been put down!! Like no?! I went and got him the next day. He was ANGRY when I got him home. I get why! He was seperated from his brother and abandoned because the owners were too old to handle giving him med and apparently he had the runs? He fights like a mother when I had to give him a pill, but since it was only gab I just let him relax on his own time. He doesn't get along super well with my other two foster fails, but the tolerance is getting better. Anyways I had an onion in my belt, which was the style at the time... Lol anyways when the kitten started meowing he perked up and started nosing around my phone because he heard a wee kitty!💜🐾

Years ago, a downstairs neighbor in my apartment complex abandoned a mommy cat and her 5 kittens on their patio when they moved out (in the Arizona SUMMER). I called the main office and asked them what it would cost for a pet deposit to bring them in because there's no way in actual hell I'm letting them sit out there on concrete. The office team members were sweet and waived the fee, and I got SO lucky to find homes for all six kitties within two weeks. It's still really heartwarming to go to a friend's house and see one of the kitties all grown up.

28:00 Even as a fairly superstitious person, I never understood the aversion to owning black cats. Growing up, the only cat I wanted was a solid black shorthair cat, but because my parents are, like, “anti-buying cats,” they took what was available and that was usually a random kitten that had been dumped on friends’ farms, so it was always a mixed bag. Only once did we get a black cat. But, he had a little white diamond on his chest, so, technically, not an “all black” cat.

Years back my brother took in a stray pregnant mama cat, and she had 6 or 7 solid black babies too. Two were girls and I took one off his hands because I knew how challenging it would be to adopt them out. If I remember correctly, only one other was adopted and the rest still live with his (now ex) girlfriend. I'm so glad he got them all spayed before he left. And yes I still have my beautiful black kitty. I named her Nina ❤

I had a similar experience with a pregnant cat. My mom's neighbors abandoned her, and she came and curled up in my lap. I brought her home and two weeks later she started giving birth in my lap. (This stubborn little cat literally followed me around the house screaming at me until I sat down. I didn't realize what was happening until there was a newborn kitten in my lap. Luckily she did let me put him in the basket that we had ready for this purpose, and she had the other two there. I figured that was much safer for the babies.) We didn't have any kind of local agency that could help us home the kittens. (At that point we were already so in love with Miss Mama Wendy that we knew she was staying with us.) But we were very picky about who they would go with. The two girls ended up going to one of my partners coworkers, who still sends us pictures of the spoiled rotten little ones. After about a month of trying to find a suitable home for the little boy, we decided that we were going to keep him. I can't imagine just sending those sweet little babies off with whoever! (I wouldn't even let my own sister take a kitten home, because I knew she didn't have the time or the space for a second cat. I wouldn't let myself keep them all because I knew I didn't have the energy or space to give them all their best life!)

I work in a vet ER and I've seen so many dogs recover from being hit by a car. Sometimes they can't move because they're painful or stunned. Sometimes they get up and walk away. The times we recommend euthanasia would be if the patients pelvis split, there is serious head trauma, or too much organ damage. Most HBC cases have bruising, cuts, and sometimes broken legs. All treatable. The fact that they gave up on their dog without even a simple exam just seems so wrong to me. They have the money to treat their pet they just didn't care enough to and then they monetized the pets death. There's something really wrong there.

As the fur mom to a beautiful pit bull that we rescued 10 yrs ago tomorrow - this makes me so angry. People treat these animals so terribly. Even 10 years after being loved and cherished in our home the signs of her prior abuse are still there. She runs from the fly swatter though we’ve never struck her. She gets very anxious with loud voices and will hide, though we’ve never yelled at her and aren’t yelling or fighting with each other just being loud humans. To give any dog, but especially a pit bull, to some rando on Craigs List is just unconscionable. I am so glad that Niko is doing better and is getting love and care that he deserves.

The mom cat died a few weeks ago, but the tomcat and kitten are still here, and both love attention. I would have so many more animals if I could afford it, but that's not being responsible. This is why we made the choice several years back to look for black cats first, in responsible shelters. (Our only recent veer from that was a spotted tabby from a hoarder house, who'd needed all teeth--well, all remaining teeth--removed due to rot and damage.) We were sent home with our new cat, two months of soft food, full antibiotics for her mouth, and a box containing pet toys and a blanket. They loved her. We loved her. Over a year now, we're still not up to getting a new cat, but I cannot put myself in the brain of anyone who deliberately neglects pets.
