Even though Brittany's part in this movie is relatively short, her acting here is underrated and exceptional in my opinion. She really nails both the humor and seriousness of her character in a way that must have taken a lot of thought and consideration. Same with Reese. The subtlety of the way Vanessa understands, reacts and speaks kindly to Rhonda shows how keen she is about others and how to treat them based on her judgment of them. The interaction between the two of them in this movie really showcases both of their talent. They are believable and genuine. You don't get that same level of realness with movies these days very often.

They had so much talent going in for this movie. A top job by the cast, crew and ultimately director Matthew Bright for making this messed up masterpiece.

It has Brittany Murphy from Clueless with Reese Witherspoon who lost the role of Cher in Clueless to Alicia Silverstone and Alanna Ubach who lost the role of Tai in Clueless to Brittany Murphy. Alanna and Reese would later be in Legally blonde together.

What was she telling us with that performance? I loved her complexity. She showed the world a femaleness that faked happy out of deep heartbreak. They exploited her gift to death. As she did perhaps to herself as innocent youth do.

CHOLA ALERT! Not really sure if as an Anglo I can really use such a potentially offensive term as cholo/chola. It literally means mixed-race people in Mexico who are not accepted by the indigenous of Mexico and are not part of the mestizo elite. It means "stray dog" in other Latin American dialects. It also means "gangster" sometimes. I would never know the subtilties of this if I had not been requested to address one of the loading dock managers where I used to work as "Mi Chola".
