Located just off Brittany, France's Iroise Sea has the largest concentration of lighthouses in the world. Almost all have been classified as historic monuments. These silhouettes of stones were nicknamed "lighthouses of hell" by their guardians because of the strong currents surrounding them. Built more than a century ago, they are no longer inhabited, but continue to fascinate locals and visitors alike. FRANCE 24 takes you on a tour of this maritime heritage.

our school used to do a trip for a week we used to stay for a week. I went twice. the school and the town had been doing this for a long time, they set us kids free to explore the town, was an amazing experience. the people where amazing

I have a picture of one of these lighthouses but with no name. It has to be the one where two other lighthouses are seen in the distance, not long after beginning of video. so fantastic. very vague description but does anyone know it's name. people always ask me about it and i cant explain. Merci in advance!!

The "Rail d'Ouessant", the sea route entering and leaving the English Channel, is one of the most dangerous in the world. The ships (supertankers, ferries, fishing boats and yachts, etc) have to skirt the dangerous rocky coasts of Brittany and the maritime traffic is intense. This is why Brittany has the highest concentration of lighthouses in the world. This route is under constant surveillance. By the way, just a small error, you designate on your map all the North of Brittany by Finistère, but you forget the "Côtes-d'Armor" (land of my ancestors) ☺👍
