FYI "Ginger Nuts" are a type of hard biscuit (cookie) making it ideal to dunk in tea (or coffee) to soften it. I'm *SURE* he wasn't using another double entendre.

Tim Minchin is an absolute genius, most of his songs have an element of misdirection to them, His song “thank you god” is an absolute must hear and shows just how brilliant his song writing really is. But others like “the pope song” and “storm” are also absolutely genius.

Thank you for taking it as meant, most Aussies can relate to the shite we dumped on red-heads when we were growing up, much more than we can relate to the shite that happens in the U.S.A. If you have a child, or know someone who has, then "Lullaby" is a song that hits the mark pretty hard. Basically anything he sings is great, even when not comedy, such as "White Wine In The Sun" (a lovely song about Christmas in Summer in Australia)

In my old hometown there were 2 brothers who really got a constant pissling simply because they were redheads. Oddly enough this came from most of the Caucasian kids and I couldn't understand it at all, one day when the mob of little horrors had finished with one of them I went in and cleaned him up and helped him home and the whole way he was asking me why this kept happening....I had no answers for him because I had no idea where this stuff came from. Many years later he returned after serving in the military for some years and systematically went around and beat the living tar out of his tormentors which the local Police politely ignored, funny that. What goes round, eh?

Tim is awesome and incredibly talented. I truly appreciate him making a point about word reclamation and prejudice saying something less serious and yet clearly making a serious point about a whole other form of prejudice. The misdirection at the beginning is key to keeping the focus on the unsaid and how the truths are the same. I do find it discomforting that this particular song is always in the recommendations for reaction on channels of reactors that are members of minorities. I really wish more people recommended his song Not Perfect because that is my personal favorite.

Tim Minchin took the coincidental sharing of letters between "Ginger" and… _another_ word, and he ran with it, grasping this opportunity to write a song that is as inspirational as it is funny, about keeping your spirit up in spite of name-calling and prejudice, about reclaiming a word and standing proud - all without ever running into the _obvious_ problems a white guy would usually have, trying to cover that topic. He is amazing.

everyone seems to miss the fact that the G-word is a dormitory term for pail skinned red haired people. i see the problem as no one seams to care that on is used and the other people freakout about. my opinion: i word is ether offensive or it is not. if you are offended by the word you have no business using it. you do not have the right to say word X offends me, but i will use the word. i take the song to be pointing out the hypocrisy of this. if you think it is ridiculous to say only one group of people can call someone the G-word then you should think it is ridiculous to say only one group of people can call someone the N-word. i use nigher as growing up i did not associate the words with the given group of people.
