Hi Britt, this song made famous from the 1970 Movie "Love Story" starring Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal. Angelina has a way of reviving many songs of the past and giving them a new meaning and beauty. She would be around 11 here sitting down with friend Egil Clausen as she has done many times and doing a song she likes. You mentioned her rolling her eyes back, pay careful attention as this is something Angelina does quite frequently when singing, she is totally immersed in what she is doing and goes to that "wonderful place" in her mind. Cheers, stay well.

Ali McGraw’s line, “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” in that move is one of the dumbest and nonsensical lines ever written.

There are videos with each of her two guitarists. They would meet with her and discuss what songs to do. Most often one didn’t know the song. Most often one take with AJ looking at verses. It’s very surreal. Also reports from Norway sound checks were like with her guitarists. Her main direction “can we do it slower?”

There is something so captivating about her voice and the way she draws you in, the words that comes to mind are storytelling signature voice genius. We are so lucky to be in this time and place where Angelina Jordan exists. It is stated that there are 8 wonders of the world, but now we know there are nine, Angelina Jordan.

AJ and her guitarist will sit down and go threw the long lists of songs and they will pick one, the guitarist will play the music till he gets what he needs to know to be comfortable and he will say ok then she will look at the lyrics on her phone. Most of all this type of video are one take,, once they are done many times they will just go look for other songs,, and yes many many times you will see Angelina's eyes roll and she is really really into her craft, she wants you to feel her music not hear it ,, thank you For another AJ reaction ans keep them coming,, if you want to hear a Little known cover of hers look up "You SAY" it's just a black screen which makes me think it might be a leaked song but it's well worth hearing every note!!!

On Skavlans TV Show Angie explains that she goes into a wonderful place where everything is wonderful and happy. I think that's where she keeps her talent. she was 12yo. she keeps the song arrangement in there too so that's why she rolls her eyes every thing is up there and is available whenever she wants, its simple really except, I dont know of anybody who can do that so well. She is incredible.

I love these little sessions with Ivan and Egil. So intimate, not over rehearsed. It shows the close interaction between Angelina and her musicians. They really work together, support each other. There are dozens of these little videos and they are all fun to watch. And when Angelina closes her eyes, just hang on for something very special. She's off to her special, private world. But she takes us there with her!

Regarding Angelina's rolling eyes in every song, this happens to her, there is an interview of hers in which she herself says that while it happens to her, she feels an out-of-body experience where she goes to a place that is all good and from there she actually manages to convey to us this emotion that we all feel and get chills 🦶🦶👑🗣🎙🎷

Another very underrated, or at least under reacted to, that has a similar dreamlike sound is "Song For A" kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKCWnpuuhbJgq6M . This is a 250 year old lyric written by Scottish poet Robert Burns. The music was composed by Russian composer Nico Cartosio who arranged the song specifically for A's voice. It's mesmerizing.

Yet another of my favourite performances! When Angelina gets inside a song like this she goes into another world - the eyes rolling back happens in quite a few renditions. Here she does not change the gender of the song, I feel that in this case it's not required - this is not the "romantic" love, the inspiration for this emotional out pouring is right in front of her - the love for her grandma, (who is recording this on her camcorder). The emotions are her own, not manufactured for a song, just telling the story, letting it flow out naturally. That's why it's so authentic and just beautiful. Angelina works relentlessly to hone her craft, we are so lucky that she takes us on the journey - it's a long and winding road...

You bring up a good point, Britt. If I were to be generous and say that each of her 200 or so videos on YT were 4 minutes long, that is 800 minutes, or a little over 13 hours. Over a period of 11years, 13 hours is nothing. I will bet that she puts far more time into practicing than we would think because the finished product is so good, so perfect, so beautiful, that it looks like it comes naturally.

She's so adept at singing in any environment and, to tell the truth, many of her casual renditions done at home with a friend playing guitar for her are better, to me, than the original artist's professionally engineered versions.

Another great reaction. And of course as always AJ knocked this song out of the park. Just as a little bit of history the movie that this song comes from, that someone else already mentioned, has one of the most quoted lines ever said in a movie. That quote is "Love means never having to say you're sorry". A line that was kind of controversial which people either loved or hated depending on what people thought was the sentiment behind it.

A big fan interviewed the two guitarists (Egil in Norway, Ivan in the USA) who the family hired for these "after school concerts" to help her stay sharp working with live bands. They both explained that these are not rehearsals (or even rehearsed). The family sits around talking about music, then about specific songs they know. She downloads the lyric & reads thru them while the guitarist reviews the music. Then they perform the song to camera (if the guitarist isnt ready, she just instructs to follow her) . Usually the first take is what we see. That's why you see her looking at her phone. Note that Gigi does this also.

Great job Britt. I think Angelina likely does spend a lot of time in musical pursuits which we don't see. In addition to warming up, and playing an instrument, I guess that much of that is listening to music. This allows her to absorb the phrasing and emotional ebbs and flows of songs (like here) even when she doesn't yet have the lyrics fully. This allows her to read the lyrics and use them to populate the story she is ready to tell.

Angelina has a great voice and I hope that she can become an even bigger star than she already is here on YT. Growing up as a child, I remember my great-grandmother had an acrylic-cased music box with butterflies going around in a circle which played this very song. Every time I hear this song, it brings back memories of being at their house.

She is a both a born talent and works at her craft. That said both solo guitarists that accompanied her said she generally did these in one take, if there was more they said it was their fault. Angelina liked the challenge of doing these without rehearsals, something about being in the moment i imagine. Here are interviews with solo guitarists (done by Alan Papier) that worked with her in LA and Norway. Great reaction and observations, Britt 🙂 Angelina was 11 years old here. You mentioned how she rolls her eyes, and this is nothing new per say. She has been doing it since she was VERY young, around the age of 10 it peaked, whereas nowadays we don't see it too often. She has said in interviews that when she closes her eyes (which I guess is a pre stage of rolling her eyes) she goes into a very special place of utter peace and love. Maybe she even rolls her eyes behind her eyelids. Kinda hard to see 😅 Love from Norway ♥♥♥

Hello Britt and thanks for that sweet reaction to 11 Angelina. I remember this theme to the movie my sister and I watched when we were young back than and we cried. Nice sad movie. Angie really brings out the song's meaning and at 11. At this time she was practicing around 4-5 hrs a day. She does close her eyes and even rolls them back into head a bit. The following year at age 12 she would do a beautiful and respectful tribute to Aretha Franklin right after she died. "Natural woman". Check it out. 👍❤ (PS. Angie’s volume was great, your mic's volume was way to low. )

Of the young ones, I prefer the live one at the HIV event when she was 9...just piano and sax accompaniment...the pianist is just free expressing the entire song and that means Angelina had never really heard what he was going to play...it is an insanely sophisticated jazz performance by a little wood nymph with purple flowers in her hair, swinging her little feet to the rhythm

Yes, I am older than most of them are but I am only a casual consumer of music and I know all these number one songs of my youth and before. Do modern music lovers not listen to older music unless they are suggested by patrons?

It's not surprising Angelina is "not 100% comfortable with the lyrics" in this video, as she's most likely sight-reading. She sing this live, in a single take, with no rehearsal. This is typical of her recordings with Egil Claussen (in this video, done in Norway) as well as her recordings with Ivan Mendez (done in LA). They would pick a song to record, and immediately do it in one take. For more about this, see Egil's & Ivan's interviews with Alan Papier: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmbaiKuhasuMgJI (Egil) and kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKa0qqdoiZiUr6c (Ivan).
