Funny how Paul McCartney is rarely mentioned among the greatest bassists, but everybody knows that line at the beginning. And it’s unique. 🤷‍♂️

I recently watched the documentary "McCartney 1-2-3," and I learned that what I had thought was a tuba on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" was actually Paul's bass. PUAL MCCARTNEY COULD MAKE HIS BASS SOUND LIKE A TUBA. He's simply the best.

They were on a completely different level... virtually untouchable. You name the band, and every single one has been influenced by them, every genre. Something very rare, and beyond once in a lifetime. They were that good.

Come Together is indeed one funky groove, and all of the Abbey Road album is excellent. The tracks from Here Comes the Sun through to the end, which made up the second side of the original LP, are an especially trippy sequence and best enjoyed all in one sitting, so I enthusiastically recommend you react to the whole side that way, I think you'll love it. IMO, while a lot of their early stuff is fun in its own way, it's at Rubber Soul that they begin to really take off, and everything from Revolver onward is golden. Enjoy!

There's so many great Beatles songs, and such a variety. Check out Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, A Day in the Life, I Am the Walrus, Here Comes the Sun, Something, , Rain, Paperback Writer, Hey Jude, Let It Be. I could go on and on, but these are good to start with. The Beatles are what got me into music, and they have always been my favorite.

I have my parents to thank for my love of music, and specifically The Beatles. They gave me my first Beatles album for my birthday when I was 7 years old, back in 1964, which was the release year of their very first US album “Meet the Beatles”. Apparently I started drumming on things when I was a toddler, and they thought they’d encourage my love for drumming. They also turned me on to The Dave Clark Five - contemporaries of The Beatles - and I loved them, because leader Dave Clark was the drummer! The Beatles rabbit-hole is full of great music. Enjoy!

You got me beat by 3 years. My grandmother gave me my first album by anybody when I was 7 in 1967. It was the soundtrack of Help on Capitol Records. It has the James Bond sounding instrumentals on it which I always thought was cool. That really put the hooks in me as far as Rock and Roll went. I still have the album too .

I was about the same age when I got the same album. Not the later, “Withe The Beatles” though they had the same cover picture. I spent countless hours singing with the songs from that album! Their early music was so different and fresh sounding from anything being played in the US at the time. Of course, their “Radical” long hair and collarless suits freaked out all of our parents. The newsreel footage of teenage girls screaming, fainting, and endlessly chasing them everywhere they appeared in public, scared the older folks to death! Lol!!!

This song is an amazing demonstration of what happens when the Blues are interpreted by English rock bands of the 60s. The song is pretty much a straight up I, IV, V, 12 bar blues. I love that period of music. The artistic creativity was off the charts.

Another great time watching you hear great music for the first time, Zay! What you get with The Beatles is some of the finest songwriting you'll ever encounter. They worked hard on every song, and crafted each one until they were satisfied with it. There are great songs throughout their entire catalog. Early on, their songs were made for radio in the 60s--2-3 minutes long, and filled with great melodies, clever harmonies (listen to "If I Fell" some of the most gorgeous two-part harmonies you will ever hear), and interesting song structures. Later, they got more experimental, and that's the period where Abbey Road, the album that "Come Together" is on fits into their song cycle. I could recommend scads of songs for you to try, but you really can't go wrong. Have fun, Zay! And don't forget--the music of King Crimson awaits you!

What a thoroughly enjoyable reaction. New subscriber here. I think I hit you with Steely Dan somehow and then jumped over here but you got to react to that latest and final Beatles release. The backstory is fascinating and it goes back to 1977, 7 years after the Beatles broke up which was worldwide news, and 3 years before he was assassinated.😢 and then it comes up all the way to 2023 where, after being known for pushing technology in the 60s, they go out with a bang right now doing exactly the same thing for their final offering.

This was the final group effort ever by The Beatles, a month or so before the release of Abbey Road, Aug 1969. Some peoples favorite. George Harrison was just 26 years old. John being all of 29. They were definitive. I love your reaction! One of the best Beatle reacts i've seen. And a lot of people have recently been appreciating this group and I love it!

I was in high school when that came out. Listening to that hypnotic effect put me almost in a trance. And the lyrics had this sexually suggestive content woven in (and I had to listen to it with headphones so my parents would catch that, and because it's better through headphones). I loved the hints the lyrics create, but not quite answering. That's another aspect of their songwriting. They made you work it out; made you work for it; and yet not fully answer it for you. Kept you coming back! If you haven't already, try the White Album. 'Yer Birthday' is a barrage of heavy rock and roll! The White Album is a collection of different styles, both quirky, and down right rock! They were always exploring and trying different things. Thanks for review Come Together! Love your eagerness to explore. 🙂

Do “Yer Blues”, “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road”, and Helter Skelter”. All from the “White Album” 1970. Probably their best, most mature and creative album. It was their last album. But, to fully understand The Beatle phenomenon, you would need to start with their early stuff from the early 1960’s. Most of us Beatles fans were young kids when they changed rock forever with their, at the time, much different chords, riffs, and harmonies. As has been said many times before, WE grew up WITH The Beatles as THEY grew up musically and politically, as well as age. WE went through the same things that influenced their music, so we related with every change in musical style they gave us. They even created some of the modern categories of rock as they, and we, grew up. In my opinion, they paved the way for nearly ALL of what we think of today as “Rock and Roll”!

Come Together is the first song on their Abbey Road album, which is an awesome album heard beginning to end. Particularly side 2 of the album (beginning with "Here Comes the Sun"), that is best experience in its entirety since most songs blend into following ones, typical of concept albums. When you play Abbey Road there's one last brief Paul song "Her Majesty" that starts about 15 seconds after you think the album is over. I suggest you do the next song on the album "Something" written and sung by George Harrison. Was consider _the_ most beautiful love song ever written.✌😎

The Beatles released more than 200 recordings. They have many, many songs that are timeless classics, many that are merely good, and a few that, to my ears at least, are not very good. I'm glad that your first exposure was two good ones. There are from the Beatles late period. I'd personally advise you to do something like chronological order so you can see how they changed over time. Some of their best early songs are: "I Want to Hold Your Hand" "I Saw Her Standing There" "It Won't Be Long" "All I've Got to Do" "All My Loving" "I Should Have Known Better" "If I Fell" "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You" "And I Love Her" "Any Time at All"
