HUGE respect to SHREDDIT BRO (no pun intended). I personally was starting to wonder why they were allowed back with such poor performances. Then they “look like Minotaur” for a day, and I’m starting to understand it’s potential. Keep it up y’all. And to Skorpios: PLEASE come back next season, I love y’all, and I want to see you guys win it all. Also, even though your wheels are sturdy, maybe think about putting wheel guards on à la SawBlaze.

i also feel like they should stick around. yes drum/egg spinners are getting more popular again but with yeti retired we are missing a nice blue 4 wheeled brawler 🙂.

"If you don't win, you won't be invited back." As mean as that sounded, sometimes, to be told that, straight up, is what people need to hear in order to get it together. That's exactly what Shreddit Bro! did, and I'm excited to see what they do next season.

I remember hearing that even during the WC VI when he couldn't be there, Rory was still helping as much as he could via giving advice over calls to get people up and running. This in spite of the time difference since he was stuck in the UK like all the other UK teams who were meant to be there.

That’s a lot of damaged bots. Not the best season for you guys, but hopefully you’ll be able to take what you learned this season and apply to next season. Congrats to Shreddit Bro for not only saving their season and time at BattleBots, but for now having a really deadly bot that is being compared to Minotaur.

Man, what an ultimatum to give team Shreddit Bro before their fight! "Someone dropped screws in our gearbox" sounds almost malicious, but im guessing it was just an honest mistake? Can't wait to see the new Skorpios 😊

Thing to always remember, most of the bots that are now the "big names" even if they haven't won a championship, all started like shreddit, hypershock, skorpios, huge, rotator, valkyrie, to name but a few, all were in the lower tier of chance of winning at one point, even down into the, i cant believe you lost to them category, either due to just not being able to do enough damage to win, or reliability, or both, inexperience driving, or maintaining the bot, plenty of other reasons. It took a few years for all of these teams to get the bot where they wanted it. But when they did, people started to really dread fighting them. I remember when the show was on abc, rotator almost always broke a weapon bar on the first or second hit, some other bot even had to use a cordless angle grinder duct tapped to the bot to fight. you all start somewhere.

This just honestly makes me really sad. Skorpios is supposed to be my 2nd favorite & most respected bot, so I really wanted to see them perform well. Even when skorpios lost, he could still put on a good show like in his losses to whiplash and yeti. But was probably skorpios weakest season yet. The two wins skorpios got was weak (cause they were quick or against not the strongest opponents), and then from there on, it was just lost after lost, and not even strong losses too. He lost to sawblaze immediately without ever getting true battle of the hammer saws, lost to an 0-3 bot, couldn't survive huge for a minute, and then here in champions 2. I really thought skorpios could redeem themselves here cause they did well in champions 1 against bloodsport. And it could have set up a rematch with rotator in the finals which would have been sick. But instead he lost again, to a bot who didn't even make the top 32 bracket. I honestly don't know what to think about skorpios now. I mean I want to like them, but again, it's hard to when they can't put on a good show anymore. I really hope they can step it up in the future, maybe hijinx retires and you bring back Orion beach and the rest of the crew to help out with skorpios

My thoughts during the round was that Shreddit Bro was Minotaur Lite. I was surprised that Kenny and Chris didn't say it. It doesn't seem quite as strong, plus they have exposed wheels, and they don't have Daniel driving, but the Bro was awesome. When I saw the matchup I assumed it would be an easy win for Skorpios. But Bro is so good now that I'd back it against Tantrum. Don't think it would beat Sawblaze or End Game, though. Good luck in whatever upgrades you're planning for Skorpios.

How did it take 2 days to realize that there was no power past the switch? Shouldn't that be like a 5 minute diagnosis with a multimeter? This tells me that Battlebots is like other engineering competitions I've been involved with - everyone has great ideas for mechanical stuff, but no one understands electronics or software, (or speed controller parameters) and that's what actually wins competitions. Anyone can make a box and put wheels and spinning discs on it, but unless the wheels and discs actually work properly, it's all for not!

In fairness the two people who are good at electrical were rewiring the rosted Robot. And because it did not turn on, we assumed some thing was not plugged in. In two days is kind of an exaggeration. Because we took a day off after the loss and then we came back and figured it out.

It's a timecrunch, producers are breathing down their necks and they might not even fight if they don't find the issue quickly. Whyachi switches (the power switch) have been used in literally hundreds of heavyweight robots and it's extremely rare that they malfunction, so that's how you miss checking it with a multimeter since there simply isn't time to go over every single part in the time allotted for repairs. Assuming that something is functional is very bad but in this case very understandable that it happened considering there are so many other places the fault can happen in too, so you work down from most likely to least likely, the power switch being very much in the least likely category. It's not like they could connect the bot to a power source, notice the power doesn't go anywhere and then while voltage is applied measure everything, aside from the battery tent and the test boxes the batteries are not allowed anywhere else from the danger of fires. And no, Battlebots isn't like any other engineering competition you've been involved with, as usually your project doesn't get smacked with tens of kilojoules multiple times with random faults (either electrical or mechanical) appearing in spots you would have never imagined and components being run well over their specs. It's like going to a FIRST competition and complaining the competitors don't know their stuff because somebody fired a .50 BMG at the bot and then threw it off the roof of a building and it doesn't work anymore. There is also a ton of edge cases where faults only appear when running the bot at 100%, something you can't do at home since the bots are so incredibly dangerous compared to First or Vex where you can run your bot pretty much anywhere to fix bugs. There are tons of very smart people competing at Battlebots with a good grasp on the electronics or software side (including members of the Skorpios team), there are just so many unexpected things that happen at a competition that no matter your skill level you can be defeated by the most simple things. It also didn't help that the supplier of like 90% of the speed controllers in this competition pushed a botched firmware update that broke a large part of the roster and the person who helped them get back on track received a sportsmanship award for the massive amount of work put out to get the patch reverted and tuned back to working levels.
@gorak9000
@gorak9000 11 ай бұрын
@@bami2 I'm not talking about "first" or "vex" - I'm talking about 4th year undergrad / grad-school level competitions hosted by AUVSI that take place on naval bases, where you're building something from scratch with a team, but there's always a lack of good software / electronics people, but tons of people that want to re-design the mechanical part of the project that you could literally just buy off the shelf because it's not really the point of the whole challenge of the competition. Oh, and while you're at the competition, you talk to some defense contractors and get some interviews lined up. Very much not "first" or "vex". And sure, there might not be the same mechanical stresses on things, but one wrong setting in your autopilot, and you're picking up months of work smashed to bits in the trees, or even in one case lighting the trees on fire when the lipos explode!

The thing about Shreddit Bro is that their wheels either need to be biggest or get the robot of the ground, they are not a control bot they are an egg beater drum, thats all they really need as long as it can last 3 minutes, their drum just won’t stop hitting the ground which is hindering them and acting like another brake on their weapon preventing it from spinning to full speed at times.
@joeofloath
@joeofloath 11 ай бұрын
The drum hitting the ground is part of the reason they did so well. Forks can't get under the drum if it's already resting on the ground.

No conspiracy theories, but "someone had dropped screws into our gearbox" sounds a tiny little bit like... SABOTAGE?! Tough day for Shreddit, but I'm so glad they found the issues that were holding them back on what was clearly a well designed bot!
