As a non-machinist, I asked myself, "What is broaching?" This video answered that question. Much knowledge was transferred in these 4 minutes. I'll never again look at a keyway without thinking of this video which showed me how the outer sleeve half of it was cut. No screen-filling men's selfie face, tedious introduction before saying "So, let's dive right in!", or music. Nicely done.

Who would have thunk it... I had no clue how this was done. When asked to purchase a set I thought it would be nice to know what it's for. We won't get a lot of use from it but the few times we'll need it it will be very handy to have. Very educational, thank you!

Very well articulated demonstration! I like your vernier calipers--really old school! It's great that you have such a nice ratcheting arbor press! Shapers also work very well for cutting internal keyways, especially larger ones.

It should work, you may need something to help push the broach all the way through the bore. What size is the bore? Can you make a two piece collar? It can also be done on a lathe or shaper. Thanks for your question.

Hey nice Video. How much pressure is needed in this case?
@machiningmoments2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. There is enough pressure to require the use of a hand press. If the cutter is sharp, and goes through straight, it is not a lot of pressure created. Thanks for watching.

since its a 3/16 does the mean the bushing only accepts 3/16 ? i cant find anyone who can explain the thicknesses of the broach and bushing groove, or what A B C D means where are the people with all the details
@machiningmoments3 жыл бұрын
They key would need to be the same width for both the shaft and bore. Approximately half the width extends into the bore and the other half is in the shaft. The width is dictated by SAE according to shaft diameter.
