Broadway All-Stars at the NBA All-Star Halftime 1998

A medley of Broadway performances. This was the halftime show for the NBA All-Star game on February 8, 1998. Including performances from the casts of Chicago, Bring in da Noise/Bring in da Funk, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jekyll & Hyde, Miss Saigon, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Les Miserables and Titanic.

OMG!!!! The whole thing was amazing but the seamless change between Les Mis and Titanic just blew me away! The music just fits so well and sounded amazing!

The choreography and sound tech was perfect. That segue (Les Mis to Titanic) stopped The Garden. No one had ever seen such a thing. Every Broadway hit show together. Even the press sections were applauding. Keep in mind, a ticket to Titanic at that point in time was IMPOSSIBLE to get. Only Hamilton surpassed the ticket demand. It took 100s to make it happen, but NBA's (then Phx/Golden State) President Rick Welts deserves much credit.

I came here for The Scarlet Pimpernel (although the other shows are great!), which is my favourite show. Douglas Sills is the best! I wonder, does anyone know if there's a video of the full show of The Scarlet Pimpernel available anywhere? That is the show I would just LOVE to see!

That is so bizarre-o! Funny seeing some truly great stars doing this. Is that Liz Callaway as Grizabella? And Victoria Clark standing back there, with Brian D'Arcy James singing. Lion King had just opened (Nov 13, 1997) and was just getting settled between November and the mid-February NBA All-Star weekend. In other words, they just missed it with timing and logistics.

Probably because it's in an arena they thought it would sound more apealing I guess? The only one it sounds completely utter crap filled is for Les Mis! Cats doesn't sound that great either, but the others arent all that bad!
