I get what what he is saying about his bent toward more traditional roles/musicals. While I can appreciate the innovation and understand the mass appeal of modern, award-garnering shows, nothing gets into my soul (for lack of a better word) than traditional broadway "show tunes." Some find it cliche, but I call it timeless. Well, everyone has their own taste and opinion.

I am going to see Les Miserables in Buffalo and I love Kiss Me Kate I want to be in both of those shows so badly
