Broadway's Groundhog Day | Talks at Google

Cast members, Andy Karl, Barrett Doss, Rebecca Faulkenberry, Ray Lee, and Jordan Grubb will be here for a great performance and Q&A along with screenwriter of both the original 1993 movie and this musical, Danny Rubin.
The hit film is now a stage musical, coming to Broadway following a smash-hit World Premiere production on London’s West End. Director Matthew Warchus, composer and lyricist Tim Minchin, choreographer Peter Darling and designer Rob Howell, four of the creators of the international sensation Matilda The Musical, have joined forces with writer Danny Rubin to collaborate on this new musical based on his 1993 hit film.
SYNOPSIS: Phil Connors is a cynical Pittsburgh TV weatherman who is sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in the isolated small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, when he finds himself caught in a time loop, forced to repeat the same day again and again…and again. As each day plays out exactly the same as before Phil becomes increasingly despondent, but is there a lesson to be learnt through his experiences, will he ever unlock the secret and break the cycle?

Literally one of my favorite Broadway musicals ever. Was there on a night that Tim Minchin was in the audience, which was a thrill.

Saw Groundhog Day in previews on Broadway and years later in repertory at SF Playhouse in SF. I would have seen it again and again and again if I had the chance. Fair to say I'm getting a bit obsessed. This led me to listen to everything ever recorded by Tim Minchin. Very nice to be introduced to such a musical and lyrical genius during the apocolypse.

Somehow the songs are touching, while not being sappy. Theatrical, but honest. Engineered with great care, but with tremenedous emotion and heart. Hope I have the chance to see Tim Minchin live, someday when this COVID stuff is all over.

I love that they talk about wishing Bill Murray seeing the show, and just days after this video was posted, he actually did attend the show! Hmmm!!
