I have expressive dysphasia and have been ill for a few months. I work as a software architect. A few months ago I hit my head and have acquired a brain injury. It is very frustrating to have the disease - but the worst part is almost when people start finishing my sentences or interrupting me. 2022 has been an exciting year for my family. My wife is Ukrainian and I myself have lived in Ukraine for 10 years. On 27 February we picked up our family in Ukraine and drove to Denmark. My father and I drove 3500 km from Ukraine to Denmark (where I was born and raised). We drove in 2 buses and my father who is 80 years old (old long-distance driver) drove one bus and I another more or less non-stop. In the month of May, I became ill in my heart and 2 months ago I got this disease. We are looking forward to entering 2023 and forgetting about 2022.

Hello @jhcdenmark, I hope this message finds you in good spirits despite the challenges you're facing. I want to share something with you that has been a source of comfort and hope for me. In Matthew 11, Jesus said: "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." In times of uncertainty and pain, it can be comforting to remember that our Creator, the Holy God, is there with us, offering His comfort and peace. He loves us so much that He gave His only Son for us, as stated in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life". This love is extended to all of us, despite our shortcomings, as Romans 3:23 says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". All you need is to repent of your sin AND believe in Him. Remember, in 2 Corinthians 5:17, it says, ‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.’ This means that in Christ, we are not bound by our past or our present circumstances but are made new in His love and grace. I pray that you and your family find the strength, comfort and peace you need during this time. Remember, you're not alone. God is with you, and He loves you. May you find comfort and hope in His promise. God bless you.

I know what it's like to have aphasia from having 3 strokes from COVID. It feels like you want to say so much but you can't. I feel for him. 😪

Yes, very common with Broca’s. More automatic responses like “yes/yeah” and “okay” come out smoothly yet when asked to say their name, it’s like a confrontation , not so much automatic. It’s fascinating and heartbreaking at the same time. I hope this gentleman has a great SLP helping him

Can you get episodes like this when in extreme emotional distress?? I'm trying to piece together what just happened to me yesterday. I thought it was to do with my echolahia loops but I'm not so sure now 😢 . After my episode I was able to calm down and recall and function like a typical person should. I have had injury toy forehead, post concussion symptoms but not in typical presentations so therefore dismissed. I type well because autocorrect helps my errors , I struggle with typing as well. Can aphasia be rpisodic

Broca's apasia can make it to where a person has trouble saying things besides one word. The original person Paul Broca examined could only say tan.

repetition was impaired and showed that he might have apraxia of speech, a typical symptom of broca's aphasia. Usually one with broca's aphasia he gonna have apraxia of speech as well. In fact there is a paper which concludes that what paul broca had defined back in his seminal paper, was AOS and not aphasia

@@viraj3975 His pharynx & larynx muscles seem to be intact and he seems like he is able to correctly vocalise & speak, he just has halting/effortful speech. Dysarthria is when there are lesions in brain that affect movement o fmuscles involved in production of speech like the pharynx & larynx.

I feel for him. He's upset he can't let out the words he wants to say! 😢 His frontal lobe (Broca's area; usually on the left frontal lobe) was damaged and its function is the motor aspect of speech, which is why he can clearly understand and follow instructions (temporal lobe intact > Wernicke's area> Sensory aspect of speech), but have garbled or slurred words

No. Patients who can write but not speak have a condition called verbal apraxia.

there is a damage in Broca's Area which is a section in the brain located in around the frontal lobe area behind your left eye. damage to this area causes motor production of speech to be impaired. production of speech is then hindered and as a result, they are unable to properly put their thoughts into words.

Because In his brain area number 44,45 at inferior frontal gyrus his brocas areas is affected which is responsible for speech 😢

im curious, are these people capable of writing correctly what they think? And if they can does that mean that they just lost control of their mouth muscles? And if they can't write, does that mean they are in control of all their muscle but they lost connections between consepts and their pronounciation?

They should be able to write fine it's just an issue with being able to actually speak. They understand what other people say fine. Edit* just learned it does affect writing but can sometimes not affect how well you can read

It is the oposite. They lost the control of their muscle, but they understand language perfectly. They are able to write

Sometimes writing is preserved but with Broca's aphasia remember that there was probably an injury on the left frontal lobe which means right motor function might not be very intact... i.e. there could be paresis in the right hand and if the individual is right-handed (most of the time they are because sometimes left-handed people have their hemispheres reversed) they won't be able to write well because of that. Usually reading is more preserved than writing.
