As I waited for the kids to arrive on the School bus I saw smoke coming from the rear of a near by home in a Brockton neighborhood. Brockton Fire Dept. arrived and got the fire under control quickly.

let's say the fire was only in that room in the left rear but the door was open to the hallway. When there is a fire in a confined space, pressure builds up. When the glass breaks some of that pressure escapes but oxygen is drawn into that room so the fire grows and More pressure is created. If you open a window in the front right, the pressure will be released there and the Heat will travel from the fire room, down the hallway and out That window bring the fire with it. ONLY, vent burning rooms unless you have a charged line on that floor ready to go. Vertical Venting does nothing but risk FFers lives, damages the roof and helps the attic burn. Open the ceiling in the fire room after it's extinguished and take a look. If there is some fire, adjust the nozzle to a cone wide enough to cover a wide area and wet it down for a few seconds.
