SYU is probably the most technically gifted guitarist. As far as Galneryus, yes mostly power metal, but there are plenty of songs of theirs that are or get plenty proggy. I'd say "Whatever It Takes" is a great example of what they get up to with a lot of their songs (other than SYU showing off)

I was like that too. 2002-2014 age 20-29 , but when i looked up Galneryus... everything went up in smokes, now i can't appreciate new power metal bands, they seem to set the bar in the highest difficulty in term of the melody and technique, or maybe it has something to do with my age.

A lot of Galneryus songs are progressive songs that go to many rhythms, time signatures, parts and with very creative solos and everything but you choose to take their most basic song (I don't know why you choose this one, a short song they intentionally made for an anime so made to be pretty basic). Glad you did Galneryus but If you love prog then you literally have a whole discography of progressive power/melodic/symphonic songs to choose from Galneryus, I did recommand some great songs of them. All of the stuff you kept complaining about are literally not this band, you want a music that travels somewhere then this band does that, you want changing rhythms and dynamic songwriting then yeah that's what this band does. That was a very frustrating part of the video, you are compaling about a band for things they don't do while saying what you like about prog bands which are things this band does a LOT. Your take on power metal is not very smart, not gonna lie. Not all power metal sounds the same, Power metal is a vast term you can fit a ton of genre in it, it just happens that when YOU think of power metal you think of songs that sound the same whille ignoring the million others than don't. Also saying people who do power metal as showoffs when you praised Dream theater is pure irony, most of Dream theater songs literally have a "let's show off the most random solos" section when they go in an instrumental tangeant that has no relation to the actual song and just do as much random and complicated stuff as possible and go as unecessarly technical as possible.

You should check out Unlucky Morpheus. They are without a doubt the best collection of technical musicians in Japan next to Galneryus (they classify themselves as Technical Melodic Speed Metal). Their drummer, Fumiya, even played for Galneryus from 2016-2020. They are also an independent band, no record label whatsoever, & yet popular worldwide. A good song to start with is either "Angriefer" live or "Cadaver/Revadac" Sheet Music Version. Their lead singer, Fuki, has worked with Syu on his solo album. She may be the hardest working woman in Japan, if not the entire music industry. Her discography between all of the bands she's worked with, guest appearances, & her solo work over her 17 year career is very extensive, plus she's the costume designer for Unlucky Morpheus (calling her a workaholic is an understatement). Also, they've done some interesting instrumental covers of songs such as "Eruption" (Van Halen), "Dance Of Eternity" (Dream Theater), "Far Beyond The Sun" (Yngwie Malmsteen), & "For The Love Of God" (Steve Vai) that have to be seen to be believed to be possible. I'm not going to spoil anything, but they are incredible.

Definitely. Galneryus in my eyes falls somewhere between Dragonforce & Dream Theater. Highly technical like Dream Theater, but nearly as fast as Dragonforce at times. Syu is that perfect blend of John Petrucci & Herman Li, or as I've heard another reactor call him, Yngwie Malmsteen but with emotion.

wrong song to start the Galneryus journey - hunting for your dream is anime soundtrack so its for wider audience and not so interesting for real music lovers… i would highly recommend trying one of their more complex songs like Ultimate Sacrifice, Brutal Spiral of Emotions, Soul of the Field, Fource of Courage, Angel of Salvation or Whatever it Takes. After listening to these, you’ll find that Galneryus has its own style and Dream Theater is boring compared to them :) I believe all of the songs I mentioned are available in live version (which are better than studios) on YT channel called “syu gaming”. Definitely give it a try !

Ok sorry but you have for sure not really heared much of Nightwish if you think they do power-metal. For sure not something like "Ghost Love Score", "Death Boys Poem", "Sleeping Sun" and of course by no way "Poet and the Pendulum" or "Greatest Show on Earth"

Not one of Galneryus' best songs IMO. Too bad it wasn't Angel of Salvation or Brutal Spiral of Emotions, which aren't as formulaic as this. Syu (pronounced shu) is one of Japan's most revered guitarists. The Yngwie comparison is apt. His song Reason ( with Fuki, one of Japan's top female metal singers) is still power metal but switches things up a lot to make it more interesting.

As I'm in Europe I'm a person with origins in european metal, Iron Maiden and all this stuff. Those bands were great but at some point when we entered in the 2000s all the Heavy Metal bands turned into Helloween, and here we are. And I like it, but it's always the same as you say xD You have good eye. This guitar player's name is *Syu* and he has been considered Japan's Vai for a couple of decades. He and Takayoshi Ohmura are the two virtuosos, being Ohmura later contracted to play in Babymetal and now he combines that with his solo career. No doubt *Syu* is considered the star in this band, that's why in every song they always let him run alone for a long solo. I've been a couple of years enjoying japanese music and discovering all this scene but I do not really know anything about India or Middle East. From India everyone seems to be liking Bloodywood lately, that's probably where you should start and from there people more savvy will know how to guide you.
