Embark on an exhilarating journey through the stunning landscapes of Norway with me as I navigate the winding roads on my motorcycle, encountering breathtaking fjords and picturesque vistas along the way. This adrenaline-fueled adventure took an unexpected turn when a wrong move led to a heart-stopping accident, leaving me with broken ribs and a story to share. #MotorcycleAdventure #Norway #BrokeMyRibs

Got to love the Scandinavians. I drove a hire car into a snow covered ditch in Sweden during the world rally championships. Minutes later a van pulled up and 12 or so giant Norwegians jumped out of the rear and hauled the car back onto the road. Great people, great memories.

I'm really sorry that you went through all of that. If you go back to ride your bike back home try to do so more during the season when the weather is better (I'm sure that the bike gang that you helped you can tell you the best time to go), then try to follow the coast more while in northern Norway, the main road doesn't show you just how amazing northern Norway actually is. People rush to the North Cape missing out on areas of Norway every bit as beautiful as the west coast because they're rushing along the main road. And I don't want you to loose out on what northern Norway has to offer. Also, yes, I think a lot of us want to support you. Although unfortunately I can't afford to help much myself... :-/

There are those who have gone down and those who will (and there is a Venn diagram overlapping those two groups). I had my BMW R1200RT fall over on me last year trying to get out of a heavily cratered gravel parking lot in rural Alabama. A man pulled over before I could get out from under the bike, checked on my well being, and then helped get that big heavy bike upright so I could shuffle off with what was left of my dignity. These roadside heroes do restore my faith in humanity. I’m so sorry for the pain and broken bones and tough recovery.

Saffy, this is one of the most impressively honest, vulnerable and moving videos I've seen a motorcycle youtuber make. Not cutting out any of the emotional bits made it very very relateable. That is not a fail in my book. Even as a traveler you didn't fail, you had an accident. Winds nearly blew me of the road in Norway aswell. You will heal, you'll conquer more challenges. Lastly I just wanted to say thanks. Had my own gust of wind blow a relationship out of my hands a couple weeks back. Was too painful to cry, i felt like a failure. Breaking your ribs on a motorcycle when it's stationary is a new one on me but then again I've had some offs which have been just as ridiculous. I'm sure it was bloody painful. I've hurt ribs playing rugby and I remember being scared to cough or sneeze! Is the bike a bit too tall for you? Maybe something with a lower centre of gravity would be more stable in bad conditions, a Kawasaki Vulcan for example? Adventure is what you do on any motorbike, not just on an "Adventure Bike" which is just a daft name the media dreamt up.
@SaffySprocket
@SaffySprocket 7 ай бұрын
Breaking ribs in such a bizarre way was definitely unexpected! And you're spot on about the pain-it's no joke. As for the bike's height, it's a factor to consider for sure. Lower centre of gravity could indeed offer more stability, so I'll keep that in mind. And you're absolutely right about adventure-it's about the spirit, not just the bike you ride. Thanks for the insight! 🏍️

I'm sad you never finished your trip, but glad you survived to tell the tale, that's what makes an adventure. If this happened in Scotland, the NHS would say " Your fine, and you can fly back home tomorrow with Ryanair " LOL. Many thanks, hope you're feeling better now, till next adventure.

Wow, just watched the episode I have been looking for. A great change from all the sunshine stories people post on social media. Nice to see something from when the nature is not so co-operative. I'm glad to see that you are working your way back in the sadle. Looks like it will be a flight to Norway this summer for you to pick up your trusted steed and drive him home in style. Hope you are recovering well both physically and mentally from the accident. All the best🙂

You are not a failure Saffy, you're a winner and I'm not just saying that. Just look at where you are and what you've achieved to get there, you can hear it in your voice before the incident. Similar thing happened to me. Two days away from home after a two week trip into the outback of Australia and I ran into an Emu in the middle of nowhere. Ripped my knee apart and had to be airlifted to hospital. That was the biggest adventure of all haha. Hope you mend quickly 🙏 ATB Jason 👍

@@SaffySprocket your not crazy your a young woman wanting to see it all and willing to push and hurt a little to do it, perhaps think about the kit your wearing and try to match it as best to the potential risk, I know as a rider myself its all a compromise, but as an older person who limps everyday (fun with a KTM 450) dont let cost compromise your safety equipment, think of it as an investment in to your future. It's amazing how an adventure can turn in a very bad direction in an instant. I've broken ribs on several occasions. Weeks of stabbing agony with every breath. My sincerest empathy. I've never gone to the hospital because there is nothing they can do for broken ribs, unless a rib punctures a lung. Fortunately, I never did that. I've also never been denied airline travel because of broken ribs. That seems very odd. By far the worst was a broken floating spare rib in my back. I nearly passed out from the pain. I could hear (inside) and feel the jagged ends of the broken ribs grinding meat. I heavily medicated at night to get three hours of very fitful sleep sitting up in the living room wing chair. It was just barely enough sleep to prevent hallucinations.

@@SaffySprocket - An hour ago, I was talking to a friend who has been riding his DR650 for the last three weeks on the TAT - Trans America Trail. He's riding through Yellowstone National Park tomorrow and then riding back east through the northern plains states. I cautioned him not to pet the furry cows in Yellowstone (bison) and to to be very careful with crosswinds when riding across the plains. I specifically mentioned the disastrous end to your adventure, and your broken ribs. I told him that you weren't even riding when the gust of wind sent you and your motorcycle over the edge. He started his TAT trip last summer but fell on the snowy Engineer's Pass in the Colorado mountains, due to hypoxia in my opinion, and broke his fibula. He had to fly home to have a titanium plate installed in his right ankle, so he's finishing the TAT this summer.

Well done for getting yourself up and back on the bike. I know how that feels. I had a similar off back in October, landed on my elbow, broke two ribs, breathing was pretty painful. 150 mile ride home wasn't much fun. I've just bought an Alpinestar KR-3 with rib protectors because, never again... Hope you've recovered and were spared the usual chest infection that follows broken ribs. Great video btw

I had a low speed get off (hired bike on day 3 of an 18 day ride) not far from Berchtesgaden in 2006. Right side hurt like hell. Went to the hospital and I had 2 broken ribs, but no attendant soft tissue damage. I was able to continue riding, but was NOT a happy camper. The worst part was zipping down a road in Italy at about 100kph when I sneezed. Thought I had been shot. Completely paralyzed for a few seconds - luckily the road was straight. Get things sorted - your bike will be waiting to see you - I assume that it's in a safe place. Glad that you made it to the Nordkapp - that place has been on my list for decades.
