It surprised me! Damned capable and for such an old girl, she fired up immediately, as quick as any diesel I've ever used. It makes me wonder why Al made that old light truck fight it's way up there loaded to the brim. I guess it's down to picking the gear up with the light one then transferring everything over just isn't worth the trouble most times but, man that old girl rocks alright.

I'm a little surprised you don't have a license to drive a semi like that with all your obvious knowledge and experience operating other heavy equipment Al. I love that trailer more every time I see it being used like that, with no need of a separate loading ramp, already to go supports for side extensions etc. Man I could have done with a trailer like that, especially one time picking up a big header that had to be brought back 400 miles away. It ran and I could drive it but, had to use a loading ramp and the hydraulic pump that powered the completely hydraulic steering, the picking up and down of the front and the discharge shute so that was interesting. That trailer I needed and used 18 inches each side extensions but, nowhere near as well setup as that one. Glad you've got a big heap of spares for your loader now. I don't know when the last time you used that old truck you pulled it off with but geez that thing started incredibly easily! She looks a very handy bit of good old gear👍.
@effoffutube Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you have to pay the state upkeep yearly or so for the privilege of driving those.
@lorditsprobingtime6668 Жыл бұрын
@@effoffutube I have no idea since I live in Australia but, my 1 license covers cars, rigid trucks of any size motorcycles and semi trailers. I'm pretty sure if I bothered to go through the rigmarole of getting tested for a power boat license for boats more than 9 hp, that would go on that license too. I did till I let it lapse have a dangerous goods license which was separate, as was my overhead crane, front end loader and forklift licenses were all separate from all the others for some reason though. PS: I forgot to add, all those license classifications are the one price too, no extra cost whereas the dangerous goods one you have to do a refresher course every 2 years I think it was and that does cost a fair bit so, I didn't look like really needing it so let that one lapse.
@dwebs262 Жыл бұрын
To drive a truck and trailer over 26,001, generally, lbs you have to get a class A commercial drivers license [CDL] with an endorsement for air brakes. Its a written test, Temp learners permit, an entry level drivers training class, on the road training driving the truck, then a final road test including a pre-trip inspection with the license examiner. Not hard, but time consuming. One fee for the test and license, then after you pay for the license renewal when it expires, usually every 5-8 years.
@lorditsprobingtime6668 Жыл бұрын
@@dwebs262 Fairly close to the same here. It may have changed in a few ways since I got mine about 20 years ago but here it's car and rigid single axle front and rear up to a certain weight, I think around 3 tons they used to call "class A". Next was class B which allowed for any rigid up to whatever it's legal to carry. Class C WAS your articulated semi license but for some reason they changed the nice simple designation to "HC" and if you have a bike license it'll say something like "R" below that. I've had my bike license for over 50 years and it's different now but, it was a written test followed by an examiner go outside with you, tell you to go down the road a couple of miles, turn here, there then this way back to the motor registry and if you got back alive, here's your license lol. All the levels of driving involved a driving test with an examiner though, as well as a written test. Driving a B double or road train was and I think still is just a matter of proving you have a job to drive one and going to the registry and they simply endorse it, which seems pretty pointless to me but . . .
@dwebs262 Жыл бұрын
@@lorditsprobingtime6668 I lucked out when I got my CDL, you went to the state motor vehicle place and they did your test, inspection, road test, but the state started to allow you pay a private company to do the test, the company I worked for insisted I go to the state place, and the examiner was upset that my company scheduled it there, so I kept saying how I didn’t want to do it there either, and my company was the problem..I had the quickest and easiest test ever, he wasn’t paying attention, to me at all, just looked out the window never said a thing…got back in record time and passed it with no mistakes. 😂🤷🏻♂️

oh thats something that would take a few minutes to get used to - i saw you pick up the green pump gun, eek, in the UK green is unleaded petrol, black is normally for diesel, but i think you have different pumps for petrol i recently switched to a diesel car, the second time i fuelled up, i was on auto pilot, i mistakenly put unleaded petrol in it DOW, went to my mates yard where we were able to pump it out nice and easy, chuck in some diesel and restart with no issue, PHEW not a mistake i have repeated since thankfully another dozey, does this mean your going to widen the road on the mountain? hehe
