An honest video giving you peace of mind. Looking at the rear wheel /axle position close to the rear of the cab body and the disproportinate amount of tray and canopy hanging way past the rear axle ( as with all brands of twin cabs including the 70 series Toyotas) the manufacturers should be partly liable for some of the chassis damage extend the chassis some 300mm

Totally agree frank. I’m certainly glad I went with the 1600 and not the 1800.

Informative video. But keep in mind even with bracing you can still snap or bend the back of a dual cab, keeping the weight down and the speed reasonable protects the chassis. The Simpson isn’t overly hard on the vehicle so long as you aren’t doing stupid speeds up and down the dunes.

Thanks Daniel, could agree more 👍 cheers for your feedback 🍻

I took the tub off my 2021 Isuzu Dmax. It was useless for security and access to trade tools. I got a Norweld tray and canopy installed with a Pedders GVM upgrade to 3.4t. I chose a compact canopy to keep the load over and infront of the rear axle. The increase in mass was 470kg and I am 700kg under GVM with a driver, full fuel, 12v system, fridge, and 40L poly water tank. The security and accessibility to tools and equipment is significantly better. I think the key to touring is not overloading.

Couldn’t agree more Paul, sounds like an awesome set up 👍

Great video mate. It it’s one of the mods most over looked. Have to say I haven’t done it. I’ve only braced my rear coil tower. And yes that road in and out of mt dare is horrendously bad lol. Great bit of information mate.

Another great video mate, love the information and tips as I'm considering a new extra cab. How have you sorted insurance for the setup? If you ever make it out to Carnarvon Gorge let me know, would be amazing to see a Mits Alloy in the flesh.

I’ll be doing a vid on how I approached insurance soon.

I feel like the weakest point on the chassis, is going to be where the front of the leaf spring is mounted. It's a shame that the kit doesn't extend further forward. How did it hold up on the Simpson desert trip?

Hey mate, COVID canned that trip. Heading there next year now. Yer we’re about to coil and 4kink th3 rear so will be beefin* chassis up while we’re at it 👍👍

So now your upgraded the chassis dose the ball weight stay the same

I think you have missed the point totally. The problem is too much weight behind the axle causing a levering effect with the pivot point being the rear axle. If you are loading up the rear axle to the point that you think the chassis might bend and you fit those lovely looking plates you will be under weight on the front axle which will cause understeer. Fitting heavier springs or air bags to the rear will not change anything except the car might sit level but the imbalance front to rear is still the same. There is only 2 ways to stop breaking or bending the chassis and they are 1) reduce the weight behind the rear axle or 2) cut the chassis forward the front of the spring mount and lengthen the chassis but about 500-600 mm to get the rear wheel under, not in front of, the load. I can confidently say all this as I had first hand experience with a Ford Ranger that was over loaded in the rear. Not the actual weight but because the weight was so for behind the axle. The overall weight of the car was under GVM but the rear axle was about 200kgs over and the front 200 kgs under and it rode like a pig until we lengthened the chassis. Then all was good. Not what you want to hear but that are the simple facts. If you go with what you have done I do hope it works for you.

Thanks Ian, appreciate your feedback and input. Perhaps it’s the next mod? Currently in the process off putting gu diffs to get rid of the ifs front and disc braces on the back. The new diff ratios will also be a welcome improvement. It never stops, always something else to do. Thanks for watching, cheers Jeff

@@jeffntashadventures3438 I think the chassis lengthen should be the first thing. Yes, always good stuff to do.
