Restoration of a broken paratrooper’s gravity knife. In this video I showed the restoration of a military paratrooper's knife. I bought this knife in an antique shop and decided to restore it. I have never restored a gravity knife before. This gravity knife is very interesting and unique. The gravity knife was broken. I polished the blade, cleaned the spring from rust and restored the bolster of the knife. I hope you enjoyed my restoration video.

I have an Original Kappmesser my father brought home from WWII it has wooden sides and the headpiece is chromed. the pivot point for the switch is broken though I have the switch. I have no idea how to repair it.

@@merlinpix Hello, if it has wooden grips, is it model number 1 (could not be disassembled) or number 2, where the wooden grips could be disassembled. Of course, it can be repaired. If it is from WWII, it is an excellent collector's knife. If you tell me how to contact you, I can send you photos of the models I mention. Best regards.

10/10 - I'm guessing a paratrooper in particular might need to draw a knife quickly to sever cords and a sheathed knife might be riskier "in transit". Very nice restoration!

Gorgeous knife, and a fine restoration. I had a similar knife long ago when I lived in West Germany, years before reunification. It had the Budeswehr green color with NATO markings. I rather liked it. It had a good blade that kept a good edge but wasn't so ostentatious. This restoration has a similar design of the handle material even, but not the awl built in. I'd love to have this knife, or similar once again.

After years of knife collecting, I have only snagged three gravity knives. They are hard to find, and have only recently been unbanned for carry in my state. I have a 1980’s Bund paratrooper gravity knife that is similar to the one you restored. Sometimes these types of knives pop up in military surplus shops, or at flea markets. They are usually promptly de-listed by eBay however.

@9:27, I once found a tool box of 1/4" Hex Bits, that had been left in our Oregon RAIN. The Bits were of course Rusted. I bought Plain Kitchen White Vinegar, loaded up a pint jar with the Bits, poured in the Vinegar, and let it set. A few days later, I saw the rust particles within the "solution", and drained out that fluid. The 1/4 inch Hex Bits I let dry on some paper towels to soak away the liquid. A little (very little) light sanding (600 grit paper), and they are Great! I do have liquid Gun Blueing, and pan on completeing that project, when I have more BLUING to do, as it is a *PROCESS*, and I prefer to do it All at ONCE! philip, from the Great Pacific, NorthWET, Oregon Division, USA

Boiling rusted steel parts in water is a better method than using vinegar. Vinegar removes metal, water converts red rust to black oxide but doesn't remove any metal. Any loose stuff left can be simply brushed off with a non abrasive brush. .

Have you ever been stabbed? I have, and it’s not nice. I am a farmer and carry a knife at all times to do farmer things. Some knives are made to kill, others to help you do your job. A decision has to be made by someone to determine which knives are ok, or not. Unfortunate but necessary. I could have died but things worked out, the knife used was of a similar type to this one. As an engineer I can appreciate its detail and quality. But it’s not for civilians it’s for defence force personnel (I did 12years in the Australian Army and know how to use this knife) any way rant over cheers mate.🇦🇺🦘👍🏼
