What is that phantom noise, why does it happen, and how can I make it stop?!
After 4 months and dozens of Georgia mountain biking trails, I can wholeheartedly give the 2023 Trek Roscoe 7 the bike review it deserves. The negatives do not outweigh the positives this trail hardtail mountain bike offers. As I said in the video, this bike has not gone in for its first tune-up offered by Trek. I will post up another review in the future with updates.

I had a similar noise on a previous bike and it turned out the stock chain was wrong so every few rotations is a specific gear the chain slips over a sprocket and makes the clanging sound, also hear it when changing down under tension

Loving my Roscoe 7. I’ve had it for 3 weeks and ride it 3-4 times a week. I did upgrade my pedals. I also upgraded my handle bar to PNW Gen 3 35mm along with my stem and went from a 50mm to a 45mm. I think my next upgrade will be the brakes to Shimano 6120’s. Keep the videos coming.

the chain noise is the same as my roscoe 6,i put it down to the single sprocket on the front ,the chain travel from top gear to botton gear pulls the chain off the front sprocket at an angle,example in the middle gear the noise is reduced

love the video mate, its worth noting that some aspects of your review on the bike are not very relevant to the bike itself (some pros and cons). Things like good breaks or compontents acting unwise. As for the cable rubbing on the lowest gear, the pinch bolt that holds it in is meant to have the cable wrap in a U shape with a cutout but over time the cable can slip out and thats what seems to have happened, its pretty universal for derailleurs to have that system. The dropper will always have play. As for the noise its hard to tell from two short clips so I dont know. Anyway if you want one cheap upgrade to make your bike feel even better, throw an XT shifter on your Deore drivetrain, XT and XTR shifters are different mechanically from Deore and SLX and have a crisper click, reduced shifting delay and allow you to shift 4 down and 2 up which is nice.
@graysonmtb
@graysonmtb Жыл бұрын
Thank you and I appreciate your advice, I’m trying to improve my talking points and planning with every video I put out. I had no idea the XT and txt shifters would be that large of an upgrade. It sounds like something I would want to change because I do feel like the shifting is kinda mushy and rubbish. Thank you Rex!
@rex9003

@@graysonmtb No problem mate, I think you should be able to find an XT shifter for a decent price and the process of swapping them is fairly easy and good practice for indexing gears, anyway if you want to try record that funky sound a bit better im sure myself or one of your other fans could tell what it is.

@@graysonmtb I don't know if it's a common problem with droppers, but we put a PNW Rainier dropper on my son's Rockhopper. Exact same problem with the twisting play. Thanks for the list! I'm looking at this bike as well. Coming from a 1986 Univega mountain with a ridged fork and center pull rim brakes, I'm sure any new decent mountain bike will be a major upgrade, but can only afford one good bike, so trying to get a Jack of All Trades. Have you ridden it much on pavement? I have a 3 mile, 50/50 road/trail commute that will be a majority of my riding and wondered if the fat tires will drag a lot. Also, how well does it climb? Hey Robert! Yes we cruise around the neighborhood almost every day with some pretty awesome inclines. It climbs well especially with the super low gear! The fork lockout does a good job keeping energy transfer where it’s needed. I’d probably look more into an cross country (XC) bike in your specific use case. The TREK Marlin series might be a better choice but I’d still suggest you go visit your local bike shop and test ride 😀

I think I know what the clanking noise is. The chain might be slightly buckled and when the chain goes over certain clogs on the cassette it will slip and make that exact sound. Basically take the chain off and bend it over your hand like it’s going through the sprockets and you’ll find a part of the chain where the links are buckled.

@@graysonmtb did you find out how to adjust it? I have about a month with my Roscoe 7 and I have that same annoying noise. I’ve noticed that it sounds a little bit less when it is clean and whitout any dust. It would be great if you can share a tip about how to eliminate this sound. Thank you very much in advance

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

Have you had your bike shop check out all those negatives? Btw, your focus didn't seem centered on your face as it seems fuzzy. May want to go to a higher f stop or add more lighting.

It all depends on what your riding. In previous generations I think they used the same frame. Now with this generation the Roscoe has it's own frame that's slacker and geared more towards all trial use.

Comparing the orbea Laufey and Roscoe: the trek have larger actual tire volyme and the trekk roles worse. THe one I rented had like optimal low air pressure and it comes tublesss I belive. The trek rides mutch smother in the rear, and the frame is said to be more complient. The orbea feels more edgy and poppier, and more fun on esier smother stuff. But I bet that if I would compare them side to side on rugh stuff, the trek would come out on top by a lot. My mt201 brakes arent as good as my 18 year old Giant inhouse MPH brand brakes... Maby I broke in the mt201 brakes the wrong way... How did you breake in yours?
@graysonmtb
@graysonmtb Жыл бұрын
I’d like to take a ride on an Orbea to see the difference, it sounds like fun. All I did was bed in the pads for my MT-200’s and for my experience level they work very well. At this moment the only reason I’d upgrade is to pass them down to my wife’s bike.

When new id go pretty fast and grab both brakes as hard as I could to the point of just about to lock up then release right before the bike comes to a full stop. Did this a few times to coat the rotors and bed the pads in.

that noise sounds like a spoke slightly torquing and turning in its nipple. Should go away as your spokes settle in.

lol make sure you see the long term video before trashing TREK. Their business has always revolved around their motto “We’ll make it right”
@ScryesKreger
@ScryesKreger 6 ай бұрын
@@graysonmtb Well let's look at this for a minute. First i watched the entire video. You said nothing positive about it even when you tried. Also, a company that sells crap and then " we will make it right ".. lmfao. How about just sell a good bike from the start. Mind blowing right? But when a company does this crap, they are simply taking advantage of their customers, most won't say a thing. They will just replace the broke part, and trek makes more money off the bike that was crap to begin with. Scandless, and I would expect more for a name brand company. So for talking trash about trek. No. They did it themselves I only stated the obvious. Make better products, better quality control, and give your customers what they pay for. When they buy it. Not in a few months or days when it breaks.. ridiculous. Rather buy a bike that is built right that I don't have to ask to replace parts they know is bad. So if they want people to not discuss or talk about how they do bad business, well, then change the way they do business.

I appreciate that and Thank you! I keep things real because that’s really how it should be. 2k is a steep entry price for certain but when I looked at value when I was breaking into the sport. A lot of bikes didn’t have the same spec level for the price. I THINK at the time I was shipping it was pretty hard to find any other bike that was sub $1,800 that had a dropper post (unless you were considering a Schwinn Auxm DP as a competitor)
But is the Roscoe 8 Worth $500 More?
