Good Morning! I had another showdown with the CR Boss at 1:30 AM when I got woke up by an email letting me know the challenge was on (I was even so proud I had this video ready to go early, too!) So you may notice our reaction has equipped some armor. This is necessary going forward. So while we may be doing the Dark Souls equivalent of fat rolling from here on out, I hope you continue to be entertained by this adventure with me! 😂 Time to groggily zombie walk to work. Enjoy! Nox

Anyone who knows about Celtic folklore was yelling at the screen when that Kelpie appeared. How it played out in the show is basically exactly how it goes in the real life stories of Kelpies. They lure someone in with their beauty and kindness, sometimes over multiple meetings, until they get that person to ride on their back. Once that happens, they immediately betray the person, binding them to their back and dragging them into the water to drown and eat them. They were especially dangerous to children and mentally vulnerable people.

I forget but in the story of Sigurd was his horse a kelpie or something else? Edit: scratch what I just said. Sigurds horse Grani isn’t a kelpie but it is a descendent of Sleipnir the horse of Odin.

I feel the Kelpie event and other "You can't trust a monster" ideas boil down to the fantasy version of "A wild animal is a wild animal" Don't pet bears, don't ride water buffalo
@Noxiddar5 ай бұрын
This is so much better articulated than I could manage at 5 AM. Thank you! 😂
@vsd-pratudotemjeito53193 ай бұрын
I agree with the wild animal comparison, I'd add however how idiosyncratic folkloric beasts act, Senshi was right, he would pet the thing but it would not just bite his hand like a regular alligator, no, the rule is it must be ridden before dropping its pretense. Monsters have lot of rules that don't fit in evolutionary standards, in some universes because magic is a thing and creatures are just made up. In dungeon meshi, however, it's more challenged than in most fiction, magical beasts are still magical but have to fit on a sustainable ecosystem. Quite interesting indeed.

Laios is such a loveable doof. The fact that he learned the sirens' song amd wamted to jam out with them is so pure, even though it does kinda contradict what he said earlier with the kelpie.
@Noxiddar5 ай бұрын
I really love how all of these characters play so well off of each other. But I confess, Laios definitely caught me by surprise there!
@jellotine30174 ай бұрын
It makes more sense I think, if you see Laios as a bio enthusiast with passion for his interests and respect for his research? You can find many powerful and dangerous animals very cool and want to find out more about their diet, their lifestyles and behaviors with the conscious knowledge that the things he loves could kill him without a thought, and likely have in the past, similarly to the living armor episode. I think the kelpie being the kind of monster that deliberately uses its charms as a familiar, gentle animal to lure you in specifically makes Laios on edge around it. He definitely springs into action as soon as the danger escalates despite his fascination with the creatures, so I've no doubt if the mermaids had attacked Chilchuck or himself he'd take them down without hesitation

Another example was a story of a chimpanzee that was made to be a pet that went on a rampage and ripped apart his owner’s face.
@gregchezick7757Ай бұрын
It wasn't the owner but a friend of the owner who interacted with the chimp on a regular basis. If you want to see a scene that is comparable, the movie Nope is a good watch.

Bonus of you reading the manga, as you said, you'll be able to get the lore and world building (especially the stuff isn't adapted into the anime) so the stuff which anime only are missing out on you get to see! (one convo in particular im rather annoyed they didn't adapt, but that isn't till around episode 10 for ya. Plus you get to compare the way its translated visually :) theres definitely some cool moments with how they adapt stuff!

I appreciate this comment! I really try to make sure that I'm not just always commenting on the story because there is just so much that goes into productions like this. Maybe it's my theatre background. I'm always looking through that kind of evocative lens and trying to feel the moment and be aware of the art that goes into bringing those feelings out. Whether it's the artistry, the storytelling, the performances, the music, sound design, etc. I'm glad you enjoy that! It's a pretty mentally draining activity (probably why I've fallen behind in my reactions 😅), but I've found that as a developing skill it's only helped deepen my appreciation of the world around me. And that's the thing I always hope to share with everyone in these reactions. There is a whole world to appreciate and a myriad of ways in which to foster it. More reactions on the way! Apologies for the delayed response! 🙏 Nox

OMG A Knights Tale is my favorite movie too, id watch it in theaters has a kid and i liked it for the mediaval sports setting, but has i grew older i started noticing how good the sets are, the utilery and the backgrounds characters, in compositions like in the church scene where Will is arguing with Joseline that make it looks like a play since the shot is always from a sideview, i like it so much i own it in every format it came out, i still have some tracks from the soundtrack on my playlist and i try to watch it at least once a month
@Noxiddar5 ай бұрын
That's awesome! I think for me, growing up, I always wanted to be a knight, and this movie was like taking that burning desire and manifesting it into reality. It is, in my eyes, a perfect movie!

Oh man Siegfried and Roy, long time since I thought of them. Roy got attacked by one of the white tigers they had, he survived the attack but was forever maimed and scarred and could never preform again, I was still fairly young at the time so I think it was like 2000 sometime? But yeah, both survived, I think what eventually took Roy was covid or something during covid.
@Noxiddar5 ай бұрын
Ah yes, you're right! This is the danger of memory recall at 5 am, and just casually bringing up something I last heard about from when I was just a wee teenager. That's the danger of knowing, but not knowing enough. I think I was getting my tiger lore twisted! Thanks for keeping it honest. I appreciate that!

Just to clarify, snakes don't size people or prey in general up, that's a weird myth. And the kind of snakes you can actually keep as a pet are nowhere near big enough to actually eat a person, i think there's only a couple species worldwide that can handle such a large meal. This is not to say you should cuddle with a snake in your sleep, lol. And in my opinion it's equally harmful to treat snakes as you would dogs or cats, since snakes are a solitary animal with no desire or understanding of mammalian companionship, as it is to spread fearful misinformation about them.
@Noxiddar5 ай бұрын
Fair. That was done in tongue and cheek. Not matter of fact. It was not meant to be taken seriously. Thank you for clarifying.
@cipher85235 ай бұрын
@@Noxiddar ah right, sorry about that. i've just seen enough people actually believe this type of stuff, it's not easy to tell when people are actually joking or not haha.
@Noxiddar5 ай бұрын
All good! I did have an oopsie about the Siegfried and Roy tiger attack where I erroneously stated that the attack had resulted in one of their deaths. I'll definitely need to address that in the next video. Haha. 🤣 All the examples were made for the sentiment of (as someone else commented and said it best) wild animals are wild. And sometimes they act wild. Irregardless of our love of them.

You have such a relaxing voice, it's a joy to watch you react and hear your insights. I feel like if you haven't watched Avatar (the animation), watching you react to that would be amazing
@Noxiddar5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment! I like my 4 AM voice, too! Haha. So, I started a few episode reactions of Avatar but decided to let the series be one I just personally watched and enjoyed. I think sometimes it's good to have a show to watch instead of viewing everything through the lens of content. BUT slightly related to that, I'm (albeit very slowly) reacting my way through The Dragon Prince which certainly carries a lot of the spirit of Avatar forward, and that's been a real delight I'm looking forward to sharing!

I just found your channel through your dungeon meshi reactions, I LOVE your commentary! Its the kind of stuff that a lot off reactors lack that I think you do so well! Dunno if part of that is cause you’re a teacher but I love your perspective and the stories you tell on these💙 can’t wait for you to see the next episode!
@Noxiddar4 ай бұрын
I appreciate all the kind words. Thank you! I'm not sure if other reactors are lacking, so much as their motivation for doing reactions are different. I tend to think most reactors are sharing what they THINK about what they are seeing. I'm always trying to both share how something makes me FEEL and to elevate the experience through appreciation of the art that goes into it. I really think appreciation alone creates a kind of authenticity that I think many, such as yourself, find unique. It's not that others aren't authentic. It's all just down to the presentation. To be fair, I don't really watch too many reaction channels outside of watching certain movie reactions to movies I've grown up loving. That's always fun. I'm so honored and humbled that you have given me your time and appreciation, and I look forward to repaying that kindness soon with more reactions on the way! Have a good rest of your week!

Shishamo is delicious. Biting into it without any warning for someone who doesn't like fish, Yikes XD Who said they told Marcille what was in the food. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This area and the Kraken were animated for a commercial in like 2019. This must be a salty water lake, right? Giant squid and most of the othes, the kelpie aside, should be sea creatures.

This is a fun show, although it's not as light and fluffy as it first appears. Can't trust Kelpies. Also, Senshi needed to wash that magnificent beard more often, because ew! Clarification for you: Siegfried and Roy performed together until 2003 when Roy was attacked during a performance. He survived, but was permanently injured. He passed in 2020, and Siegfried passed the following January. They knew what they were getting into, they understood the risks. They were the first ones to say it wasn't the tiger's fault.

I'm a bit late for this one, but I'm loving the more "rambly" style of commentary you had this time! The fish story was so fun, I can't imagine what that would've felt like, but you are so strong for surviving it The animation in this show is really just remarkable, I'm glad you noticed some of those little details that add a lot! Nailing down the theme of the episode as "respect" was not something I had thought of, but it makes a lot of sense. Respect for wild creatures with the kelpie, respect for other people's hard work and passion with Marcille's soap, respect of the ecosystem with the kraken, it fits! Also I love the new shiny armor you applied to the reaction, very stylish:) Hope you're having a great week!

It's such an actual gem to sit down and just be pleasantly surprised. I don't know if it's because of a smaller community, or if people genuinely don't want to tamper too much with my expectations, but I feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy the show for what it is, and not necessarily for what others are expecting me to see it as. I think sometimes with something as beloved like One Piece, I get unnerved going into episodes because I've got a vocal group in my comments that no matter how much I enjoy something, they tend to offer a comment that it's an invalid feeling because they know what's coming up. I think it's well-meaning, but nothing kills my enthusiasm for discovery than being told I can't be excited YET. Haha. So, I've taken a bit of a break from posting that series until I can get further ahead in recordings and maybe soften those weird comments. That's the hope! Delicious in Dungeon is such a satisfying watch. I have loved every aspect of this anime's production, and I've really been enjoying reading through the manga, too!
