I know Bagginshield isn't n the movies but you can still feel the connection when Thorin died. The way he was whispering to Thorin. The acting was well done during that scene even though my heart broke into one million pieces.

One of the most profound lines for me in the Hobbit films was Bilbo's simple statement, "He was my friend." Good vid!

It's so heartwarming to see the connection between the Hobbit and the Lord of The Rings, that scene where Bilbo found the Sting blade in Troll Hoard cave and the scene where the much older Bilbo gave that very same blade to Frodo in Rivendell. Also the scene where Thorin gave the mithril vest to Bilbo as gift , which later is passed on to Frodo. If you remember, that same Mithril vest saved Frodo's life from the spear that a cave troll used at him in the fellowship of the ring :)

omg wow this is a perfect song and perfect collection of scenes that just transition so well. i loved the part (tho it weren't real) when bilbo was old and crying as if he was remembering thorin and when he was ready to leave as if he was eager to meet thorin in death.

Older Bilbo (Ian Holm) crying at 2:54 just kills my heart. So many reasons I don't want to watch the last movie until I know I can watch it without bawling my eyes out. Also waiting for the extended edition. But mainly I want to live in denial about things that happen in the last movie.

I haven`t seen the films, but I do remember the tragic ending from the book, though I read it as a boy many years ago. It was one of my favourites and I still retain much affection for it. Of all the fan videos of Thorin and Bilbo posted here, this is the best: moving, achingly beautiful, strong, and telling of a deep friendship between them born of their quest. The conflict in Thorin between his honour and loyalty, and the lure of the hoard is dramatic indeed, and eternally attractive to us. The music was well chosen, too. I will watch those movies! Thank you for posting it!

I didn't care for any of the Hobbits films when they first came out. But after watching the 3rd one and especially the last scene of Thorin's death, I couldn't help but fall deeply in love with the characters of Thorin and Bilbo, especially our King under the Mountain. i love how this is put together, Marie Song. It's super great. But, "My poor feelings"? Mine are flippin' jacked up! I looove sad endings. I only cry when I'm physically hurt or I'm super mad. Once I blew up when I was annoyance broke my annoy-o-meter (if thats a thing) I'm some-what scared of centipedes, millipedes, and catipilars. I mean, srsly. Do you think that, over time, as the ring started to get to Bilbo, he eventually forgot about Thorin? After he wrote "There and Back Again- a Hobbit's Tale", you think he forgot about how much he cared for Thorin, and how dear of a friend he was? I mean, i know he didn't have too big of a part in LotR, but, even so, he never really showed any outward signs that he even remember the majority of the journey to Erebor. Just a thought.

Lunar Insanity I know this comment is so old but my theory is he tries to hide any memory of him since it made a huge impact on his life. I find myself trying to avoid any memory or word of some of my beloved ones who died because I know it would make me go mad. Plus Thorin was Bilbos only true friend before he became very good friends with Ganadalf. Bilbo wanted to see the Lonely Mountain, as mentioned in the film. I guess he wanted to visit Thorins grave as well. But without the ring he got older faster. Maybe he talked to Elrond and he comforted him so Bilbo made peace with the fact he will never be able to go there again.

I saw the last movie is coming out on disc. I still don't think I can watch it. I get emotional very easily. Not only will I probably end up crying at every death scene, but seeing Thorin go mad from the gold will probably have me either in tears or near tears too. Even though I've watched the death scenes on youtube, it's not the same as seeing them in full context. I don't know whether to blame Tolkien or Peter Jackson for the characters in the movie being so easy to care about. Even if they are just fictional people. Even Boromir's death didn't bother me before. Or Haldir's. Something about these dwarfs just pulls at the heartstrings something fierce.
