Raffle comment : This year I finally got the chance to visit Xinjiang following the steps of people who walked on the Ancient Silk Road. On the way, driving up to 400 km a day, there are staggering mountains covered in snow ,canyons, blu lakes, rivers and the amazing Taklamakan desert with gorgeous sand dunes. I have seen Yaks, camels , horses on the vast grasslands and the most amazing of all, in my eyes, the Stone City and many other ruins where, hundreds of years ago, people stopped to rest for a few days before continuing the long journey on the Silk Road. Last stop was Kashgar old city, with it’s beautiful mix of friendly people. I spent days there talking with the locals taking their portraits and eating delicious food. It is a place like no other and so unique.

After many years of dreaming about visiting a place in my own country, I finally made it there in 2007. It was the cliff palaces of the Mesa Verde National Park in the US. There are ruins there around 2,000 years old. It was a place I wanted to visit with my son, but sadly he passed in 1996. So I took a locket full of his ashes and left them there in the ruins. Seeing the beautiful cliff palaces was almost overwhelming and I will admit I sat down for a moment and teared up.

I've been a ton of places but one that stands out that I keep going back to is City Methodist Church in Gary, IN. I know, everyone has been there. But having been visiting it almost every year for well in excess of 15 years, watching the changes take place has been fascinating and heartbreaking at the same time. Many places in Cleveland also hold a special place for me. There's a couple of whales on my list that I hope to hit this spring out in the Maryland / DC area that look intense to say the least. If I'm exploring, I'm happy!

I wish it had been urbex but about 10 years ago I was in Jamaica. I went with my family as part of a cruise but I'm well known for leaving off on my own adventures. So, I hired a taxi in search of "candle shops" which is the Jamaican style of metaphysical store. Most of these are favored by Voodoo and Hoodoo practitioners, which I am not, but I am interested in the cultural significance of it. My driver was happy to oblige but said it was because as a Christian, he wanted to make sure I was safe and protected. As a middled aged Caucasian woman, I understood his meaning quite quickly. But the trip was fascinating. On one side of the road were luxury, all-inclusive resorts. on the other, shells of concrete or metal blocks that were multi-family homes. People living in metal semi-trailer boxes, holes for windows, cooking out the front door. In town, when I got out of the cab, school had just gotten out. Kids were fascinated by this white woman who had a bag of candy to share around. I was quickly put in my place in terms of privilege and have done my best to live a better, more practical life

Old, abandoned military stuff is always fascinating, and ships have an additional vibe factor to them because even smaller ones just tend to be huge in the grand scheme of things. My favorite exploration was in 2017 when I was visiting Estonia, having a trusty Kia Ceed as a rental car and just exploring the country side without a schedule. When driving between Kiltsi and Rohuküla, I stumbled upon the remnants of some old manor next to some old soviet military buildings. When looking around, I realized there was some huge area with seemingly abandoned tarmac when you cross some shrubberies. After going through them, I realized I just got to an abandoned airfield. Sure, airports and airfields always seem "normal" sized when you are in a plane or just pass them with a car. But for the first time traversing one by foot, I was just floored by the vast expanse of taxiways. Sadly I did not have enough time to see whether I could reach one of the potential hangars. Both the manor and the airfield seem to be well known, and seems like the locals use the old airfield for like traffic safety or drag racing as far as I could gather when I looked at them on Google Maps in the hotel afterwards. Still, crazy experience discovering this without any prior research of interesting places to go. Really hope that my life brings me back to the Baltics one day, the overall mood from the wonderful seaside landscape and woods mixed with some disused buildings from soviet times was just crazy. I also really enjoyed the mustard, hahaha...

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing this reflection! It's true - there's something humbling about seeing structures and achievements that once stood as symbols of human strength now being reclaimed by time. It reminds us of the impermanence of even our greatest triumphs and how nature inevitably weathers down all that we build. This aspect of urban exploration can feel philosophical, showing that change and decay are just as natural as growth.

Hooray, a new Balkan video at last! Worth the wait. The first part of the video, you explain that the 2 boats are next to an active military base. So how did you manage to get daylight drone footage of the ships? Extra sneakiness, stealth drones? Then the abandoned military base you explored, that must be a different place farther up the coast? Great new spooky music to go along with this one. Lastly, nice car with the tent on the roof. Did Til finally give up on repairing his old one? So good to see you guys out exploring the world again (even though I know this is old footage.)

Wow very cool guys. Looks like I'm about 4 weeks late to the party. KZbin failed to notify me until now. Well better late than never. Anyways very cool find. It's very sad to hear that they felt it was too expensive to clean up the ship, now it will be an even bigger mess to clean up. I'm sure there are many organizations that would've been happy to have come out to clean it then sink it for an artificial reef. I guess it was too much effort to give it a second thought and just kept pushing it farther and farther down the to do list. I hope this doesn't come back to bite the Croatian government. As always another great video.

Are you aware of CO2 traps in old boats? The rust depletes oxygen and if not proper ventilation could be a death trap.
@bwturbexАй бұрын
Great point, and thanks for looking out for us! CO2 and oxygen depletion in enclosed, rusting spaces like old boats is a serious concern. Rust can indeed contribute to oxygen depletion, which, without proper ventilation, could create dangerous conditions. Before exploring such areas, we check for ventilation and make sure air quality is safe. We'll continue to keep these risks in mind and show how we mitigate them in future videos. While you guys explore the abandoned ghost ship with shorts on and skin exposed, where you not worried for not taking any precaution from getting infections from rusty metals? With just one cut to your skin you may have been infected with tetanus bacteria, or even die from sepsis!
@bwturbexАй бұрын
Thanks for your concern! Safety is definitely something we take seriously, even when it might not look like it on video. While we did dress lightly due to the heat and activity involved, we were cautious in navigating the ship’s structure. We checked for stability and avoided areas with sharp, rusty metal or obvious hazards. As for tetanus risk, you’re right - it’s a valid concern with old, corroded metal. Fortunately, we’re all up to date on our tetanus vaccinations.
