Ironically both versions of the character were good. One was the representation of how dangerous the Saiyans could be, while the other is what he could’ve been if he were surrounded by good friends to balance out his savage nature (even probably falling in love) and was capable of being reformed (which he did). Both had the typical Saipan qualities, but Z Brody was about the bloodlust and insatiable thirst for violence, while Super Broly was about the capacity for honor and compassion a Saiyan could posses if he were surrounded by real friends, giving him a reason to fight.

This Broly is the ultimate foil to Goku. Both are particularly powerful Saiyans that had their lives torn apart at a young age and forged their own paths while learning how to break their limits along the way. The difference is Goku had a proper support circle and learned how to control his abilities while Broly was treated like in animal and literally didn't know his own strength until it was too late.

Can I just point out real quick that Peragus, despite the hate he gets in the show, is likely the reason why Broly is as he is. The shock collar was a tool for Peragus to control him, but at the same time, the shock collar also kept Broly from going Beserk many many times.

I think that raising Broly would be an insurmountable task for just about anyone, and Paragus was absolutely not prepared for it. He was terrified of his son, especially given Planet Vegeta had just been destroyed, so I can see why he'd be so quick to the trigger with keeping him on a leash. It still really fucked Broly up, though, and having people like Cheelai and Goku around him now will help him unlearn so many of the traits his dad instilled in him.

Seriously, the opening for this was just like a legit scifi movie. If Toei actually put effort they could do a space adventure with Broly and his 2 new friends. Cheelai is literally a new young Bulma and Frieza Army could be just the galactic Red Ribbon Army they have to dodge while they go on wacky adventures/ Cowboy Bepop it up. Broly's main goal is that yeah he's super strong, but he has no control over it so the main story for him is to come into control.

Well technically, he had all the giant bugs he could eat - not to mention, insects are way higher in protein than the normal animals like what Goku eats. If anything, Broly may have even eaten more than him - even if the bugs taste like shit. The lack of real water probably did hinder him a bit though. By the time Broly became a teen, it was probably a "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me" situation for the planet's inhabitants.
