I just realized watching these videos has the same soothing allure as watching the Great British Baking Show -- they're informative, tranquil, and gently amusing. I find myself watching them even if I already know the topic, probably as an antidote to the overstimulation of biking in NYC. Also the audio/video quality is getting noticeably better!

@5:06 You probably won’t do this often, but please be careful when cutting with a knife. If the blade slipped you would have effectively slit your own wrists. The angle is challenging, but I would try holding onto further down the handlebar to allow for any potential slippage. The general rule in the Boy Scouts was to cut away from you whenever possible, not towards the body.

Thank you for the advice and concern. Normally I would, but I do end up doing things at funny angles so I can show the steps, must keep safely at the forefront of mind! Not sure it would have been a good outage even for Halloween..

I’ve just applied Proofide to the top of my saddle as you did in the video. Then I read the Brooks instructions which say most of it should be applied to the underside! I need to buy more Proofide - order on its way!

I don’t know why they stopped doing the 5 speed hub, IMO it’s far better than 2 shifter 6 speed arrangement of current Brompton. Another great video thanks 👍🏻

The ‘clever little clip’, to prevent the fold-under, hit the market a long time ago - years before Brompton belatedly came up with the complicated design which is now fitted as standard. I bought a couple. Within 6 months of regular commuting metal fatigue had written both of them off. As ever, Brompton took years to produce an expensive solution, but it is reliable, durable and well-engineered.

How much vibration do the handle grips absorb? I find that the old foam rubber grips transmit too much vibration into my hand causing arthritic pain in my thumb/wrist. Any suggestions?

Great video. Interesting ...on your Brooks sporty riding choice on a tight base / M-Type Brompton. I love my B17 Black with my 2015 M-Type Brompton. I even find it's a tad too narrow for my liking. I'm looking forward to a JOSEPH KUOSAC - Ergonomic - MID-RISE Handlebar upgrade to lower my posture just a little bit and make (I suspect) the B17 fit better.
@sheilastallard4 жыл бұрын
Could never get on with a Brooks saddle (b 17). Should you have done the underneath as well?, Best upgrade that we have done is a rear view mirror mainly because we are both over 65 and the neck is getting a little stiff to look back!. Keep Safe!
@brilliantbikes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the comments We will do the underside before taking Blue out again - we were saving that for our "how to look after your Brooks saddle video" We like the Garmin radar rear light - it shows on the computer (on the bars) any approaching cars - and flashes brighter (for the benefit of the car) as the car approaches - saves a stiff neck too :-) Stay safe!

No O-rings under the pentaclip? Keep hold of that old seatpost extender you removed as they’re in demand yet no longer made. I’d’ve added Brooks GP-1 grips (as previously mentioned), modern brake levers and Joseph Kuosac mid-riser handlebar (bar width shortened as necessary).

I've found on a previous bike that these type of grips with the metal sleeve you tighten on have a tendency to slip if you lean on then too much, when going up a big hill for example and for fear of rounding off the tiny grub screws one cannot tighten them too much. Instead of buying leather grips for my B75, I stitched some leather sleeves around the rubber grips, time will tell if it was a good idea or not. I'm pondering getting a brooks saddle for mine but I don't think they make them in many colours other than black and brown, will need to go browsing.

What is the correct size (130/130 vs. 130/100 vs. 100/100) for the grips to fit the latest gen Brompton with a S and M handler bar?
@brilliantbikes3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for the question. It depends on the handle bar type, 130mm is fine for the s-type and new m-type (post 2017), however pre-2017 and the B75 need to have the 100mm grips due to the high rise bars

Unfortunately, these grips did not convince me at all, I never felt comfortable, especially on longer rides. They are hard and will remain so. An aluminum core wrapped with leather strap - grips without any padding are probably not everyone’s cup of tea. I finally replaced them with the much more comfortable Brooks Ergon GP1 grips.
@brilliantbikes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the great feedback on the Brooks Slender grips To be honest these were more to make Blue look better - she's not a workhorse bike - and for the convenience of the right grip length. Previously we had fitted GP1's (not leather) cut to size with a sharp knife to fit the older style bars. Our main Bromptons have a mixture of Ergon grips (GA2 and GP1) - these are comfortable for long rides
