Thanks for help changing worn out brake blocks. I was interested in your comment about pins and needles in the heel of the palm and when I go out I will try your advise. I have a long body and shorter legs and would prefer a more sit up and beg configuration, but if the handlebar stem was longer it wouldn't fold. Many thanks for your video. John from London

Hi Chris,How to make minor adjustments for the break, say front wheel break wear faster than the back break, do you need to loose the cable nuts and tighten it again? Anywhere to make quick little adjustments just like my road bike breaks? Thanks! From where the bike was born, London England.
@ChrisbyBike

Hi Google User I'm glad you found the channel. The front brake is responsible for 70% of the stop power. There are a small adjustment for front and rear brake in the beginning of the cable, (next to the brake lever) if you turn it clockwise it will make your brake pads closer to the rim. But if it is already turn all the way in, you will have to lose the the cable fixer (in the calipers) and shortener the cable distance. Hope to be of some help Nice to have you on board!

AAAAHHHHH! Thank you so much! Just checking to see if you posted the video yet before I fall asleep and I had the notification you did! 🤗🥰 You changed your handle bar grips from the GP2? I feel a little more comfortable tackling the brakes myself. My issue is the rear brakes and I feel that they are slightly too close together. There is hardly any gap between the pad and the wheel so as it spins it touches. Looks like I need to loosen the cable a millimeter or two 🤔. I am thankful for this video. I've done so much research most of the things you covered here have been addressed but never communicated so easily in one video. The point you made of brake lever angle in relation to relaxed yet straight arms was new information to me though! It makes complete and intuitive sense, but most content on KZbin is tailored for people who aren't brand-new to cycling (outside of being a kid or messing around with beater bikes in Middle America where everyone drives literally everywhere once they turn 18) with no associations. The only content I really came across four brand-new cyclist is about seat height adjustment and where to put your foot on the pedal haha. I love that we're getting more more River trails and biking infrastructure in my community and I can't wait to visit Rio de Janeiro and all the beautiful places you share with us. Thank you so much again and be safe 🚵‍♀️

@@ChrisbyBike I had more to add so I fixed my comment haha. I thought they looked different I didn't realize they were the same grips 😁 I was still trying to decide whether or not I wanted bio cork or the basic cheaper ones so hadn't purchased yet. I reserved the bike in June, was supposed to take delivery first week of September and it finally arrived last week 😆😅

Hi NoZenith The Grips are a very important part of the bike. After the saddle is the most deciding part of conffort. They are not expensive, and it is worth the small investment. 👍🏻😊

Hello, I like the sclaverand valve. With Brompton I have only ever seen the car valve. In your video, however, the Sclaverand valve. Do you need an adapter for it? Thanks for your help Many greetings juck.
@ChrisbyBike
@ChrisbyBike 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Juckendes Auge The A and C models come with the Schrader valve, but the new T line comes with the Presta valve. To replace the tube and valve on the C line, is needed a small plastic adapter to hold the valve on the rim without moving, because the rim hole is larger them the Presta valve. Nice to have you on board!

As an owner of a Lightweight, I have bought a new set of Titanium bolts for my brakes, to make it even lighter - and a new, very expensive, Black Titanium, 600mm seatpost (Scandinavian standard!), which is lighter than the original. My bell is part of my original handle, and I haven't got wings, but just a set of plain leather grips, with Brompton printed on them. ;-)

@@ChrisbyBike As a former craftsman I have a proper torque wrench, actually several, also for bike use, but it doesn't matter that much if you have a feeling for it, not to tighten the bolts too much, so I really don't care that much.

And I can see that yours are a standard type brake, unlike the original Brompton type brakes on my bike! If I should want to change my brakes I will need some different clamps for their mounting points, as Brompton brakes differ in size from ordinary type brakes!

@@ChrisbyBike It is two pieces of plastic, with an edge to follow the wheels rim, and it guides the brake pad, being positioned between the brake pad and the wheel, while tightening the bolt properly with a tool.

And going down a very steep serpentine road during my latest vacation, I had to brake really hard before some animal preventing measures, which I had to pass on foot, and my brakes functioned really fine, without any tendency to become too warm/hot. I would like to find a Disc brake to fit my front (new fork, brake and wheel), as I know from my MTB that they are way ahead of ordinary brakes.

Hi Finn Carl Bomholt Sørensen Disk brakes are much more eficiente, but much heavier and maintenance demanding. I have disk on my MTB and Touring bike, but prefer the caliper brakes of my Road and Brompton Bike Nice to have you on board!

@@ChrisbyBike My rather newly home-modified, Superlight carbon MTB, with the old type 700C racing bike size, Shimano XTR wheels (originally absurdly expensive Competition Wheels, but as used and now "outdated" by 27½" and 29" wheels, to be found on Ebay for a less unreasonable price!) has hydraulic, top version, double caliber, Shimano XTR 9120 disc brakes, with oversize 203mm disc for its size wheels in front - 180mm in the back (And I was - really afraid they would function too well, eventually being able to be blocked on a flat surface road!!) but they works amazingly fine and balanced, and very, very much better than my former, ordinary MTB rim brakes (And the original size 160mm discs on this bike)!!! They are really Worlds apart in braking ability!! I also use a full XTR set, 3 times 11 gears on my bike, as I don't find less gears better, just easier to operate! But now you may select for which terrain use they are intended, by the three cams in front. I'm able to go up a flat wall in my low gears, even with the wind against me! ;-)

I can't even start on a flat road in such ultra low gears, being unable to obtain riding speed, but up a hill, feeling you are going to flip backwards, they do function!!! And with your lungs on the outside, when coming up! And - with bike shoes in clips, being an old man, I'm unable to free my feet from the pedals - if I'm unable ride up any further - so I must continue!!!!! ;-)
