I've had two during a pneumonia recovery. Both also had lavage and one retrieved 7 biopsies. After viewing this I am so glad I was 100% out for the entire procedure. A lovely Propofol/Fentanyl cocktail my my day smooth. I remember nothing and had absolutely zero side effects, pain, etc. Amazing what we can now do ... oh science, how lovely you are.

I was also out. I was given general anesthesia for all 3 of my bronchoscopies. Mine have all been thanks to pneumonia as well. I’ve had 3 pneumonia’s in the past 6 months alone and probably 15 since 2016.

@@katien.6356 For 1 they can do a “washout” to get any areas of thick mucus out. They can take biopsies to see if we have any bad organisms growing inside of the lungs causing me to have so many pneumonia’s. I have CVID (common variable immunodeficiency) which means I’m immunocompramised due to low amounts of IGG which helps fight off infections. I get pneumonia pretty easily and have had it probably about 15 times since February 2016 when I had my first pneumonia (I had one 10-15 years ago but it was a very mild walking pneumonia that the urgent care treated with oral antibiotics). The pneumonia from that year was a double pneumonia I got apparently from a flight from Las Vegas to Tampa, Fl. After that it was all downhill from there. If the biopsies show any nasty organisms than they could put me on certain antibiotics to kill it. No one should get pneumonia as often as I do and I’ve had both pneumonia vaccines however due to my CVID they are not as affective on me and I’m immune to only a few of the strains the vaccine protects me from. Out of 23 strains the one protects everyone from I’m protected from only 6 of the strains which is better than nothing. I’m also prone to sepsis which I’ve had 4 times and one I had it with my double pneumonia (that really sucked and made for a horrible hospital stay last July) and I’m prone to GI infections which I’ve had several of those as well that’s landed me in the hospital for a week or so. Also increases my chances of getting cancer. CVID is rare but somehow I won that lottery. This should be the last bronchoscopy for a while I hope.

I’m just on my way to the hospital for this procedure and thought I best take a look at this so I know what to expect. For me it’s the unknown that is unnerving. This has helped seeing visually and to hear you commenting through out. I too am not looking forward to it, but although it’s written down and discussed before hand, you can’t beat being shown. Thank you so much for showing the procedure and I hope you had good results. Wish me luck, I’m going now 🤞🏻

Frickin' cool! Thank you so much for sharing that!!! Thinking of showing at preschool so the children can see! Brilliant! I had respiratory failure 5 years ago when I became paralysed from the neck down with Guillain-Barre Syndrome and had to be intubated to save my life and was on a ventilator for a couple of months. I so appreciate my lungs, and all the marvellous mechanisms that make up the human body and that we tend to take for granted every day (till something goes wrong!)...Important to think about these things and how our bodies work so hard for us, and how we need to be mindful of what we put inside them and how we treat them - as they say, your body is a temple, treat it with respect and care. It has to serve you and carry you for a long time! Treat it well. :-)

I'm watching this after loosing my 65 year old loving mother to bronchoscopy on October 19, 2023, 3 days after CT scan of her lungs, which ambiguously showed "fibronodular densities in the right lung, right lobe consolidation collapse and cardiomegaly". we got hurried up by doctors confused about it being Pneumonia, or malignant suspects. During the bronchoscopy she suffered bleeding leading to cardiac arrest. We were broken in hospital and brought her dead body for last rites on the very next day. The sample was taken but wasn't sent for examination. After putting pressure on hospital, the report was uploaded on November 1, that suggested no evidence of granuloma or malignancy but necrotic bits of fungal infection in her tissue hinting at Mucormycosis. Today im in depression regarding where i went wrong.

The reason his lungs bled so much from the procedure was not an abnormal response, it was totally normal!! Our lungs are constantly supplied with a rich amount of blood because this is where gas exchange occurs! At the ends of our airways are tiny, actually microscopic, sacs called alveoli. Every time we inhale air, the alveoli exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide with the little capillary vessels surrounding them. Then, to get rid of the carbon dioxide, we simply exhale the exchanged air back into the environment. Carbon dioxide is a waste product of cellular respiration, so we want to get rid of it before it changes the stable chemistry within our bodies in a process called homeostasis. Hope this helps any of you guys who are confused (or concerned) about this man's lungs!! :)

Hi Emmy, the tissue repairs itself really easily and it looks worse that it is. What would be left after repair is a small amount of scar tissue. The size of the clipper was probably around 3-4mm wide so the amount taken is very small. The camera just makes it look big! Hope you like the video :-) Feel free to ask any questions.

I’ve had a chronic dry cough for the past 5 months, almost 6, and nothing has worked for me. neither natural remedies or prescriptions from the doctor. doctor recently prescribed with some medicine and said if that does not work, they’re going to send me to do one of these procedures. Not scared but very anxious. Has anyone here had this done? Would love to hear your experience.

I am in the medical field, and I have to say, there are better techniques to do this. He was far to conscious during and after. Most people, and I do mean MOST people who be anxious, feeling a panic attack, and would not be able to talk like they were ordering a meal. I had a radical Nephrectomy, and it was brutal. Even having that, which makes this seem easy, I would not want to be that awake for this. There are alternatives for this, and nobody has to be this awake for this. I found this to be a bit barbaric, including the setting, especially in this day and age when modern medicine has advanced so much. Not the worse by far, but certainly no the way I would go nor would I allow it to be done where ever this man is. Very uncomfortable. Most don't like getting a filling done at the dentist office. Imagine this????????? No way. Find a top one hundred hospital, and have it done where you don't have a clue what the hell is going on.

@@PurplePinkRed I have had so many surgeries, I don't even know the number. So now, since I work in the medical field, I want the good stuff. Knock me out. I love the feeling of drifting off to sleep. At that point, they can stab me all they like. lol And I once woke up during a regular upper endoscopy. If it was not for a wonderful nurse talking in my ear, as I could not open my eyes, she explained to breathe through my nose as they took the scope and suction out of my esophagus and then I went back to sleep. I still remember that to this day. No way will I ever be awake again, not even for a fingernail. lol lol

What keeps the patient from getting pneumonia with sending fluid (anesthetic) down into the lungs during this? And how long does the bleeding last? Is it dangerous in any way? This was really interesting. I learned some things here! Thank you for sharing it with us.
@tanprisouple
@tanprisouple 9 ай бұрын
super late response to this but pneumonia isn’t fluid in the lungs in sense of outside fluid got into the lungs. it’s on a microscopic level where the very final ends of the tubes you see in the video have inflammation and an overproduction of mucus(fluids). these ends are called alveoli and they’re the primary site for gas exchange in the body. this is where your body actually “inhales” oxygen and “exhales” carbon dioxide. so when these alveoli are filled with mucus in an attempt to fight infection, it blocks the pathway for gas exchange and can cause respiratory failure.

You are very welcome, and a part 2 is surely on the way! However, I don't suggest doing these kinds of experiments on a rat... you'd actually need to do a smaller scale bronchoscopy procedure, because if you used the same one used for humans, it would be like an episode of Blacked... I mean whaaaat, I don't watch that! Never mind, forget I said anything😁😁

Is it really okay, for your lungs to just bleed out like that? I was disturbed the whole video 😖
@jeffreysdavis
@jeffreysdavis 5 жыл бұрын
it's not bleeding out, those are very small blood vessels. and the sample taken is actually a lot smaller than the camera makes it look. this procedure is done quite frequently, even on very sick people, without much complication. If there are any complications, its generally not from the bronchoscopy itself, but rather from underlying issues with the patient's respiratory system
