My theory on the tripping : it was to make dash dancing inconsistent, dash dancing is a big part of mind games and allows to hide your intentions and mix up your timings. If you can't hide your intentions, every of your approach becomes telegraphed and more predictable. Reducing the mind games reduces the competitive aspect of the game. It also helped reducing the pace of the game in general, if you can't run without putting yourself at risk, the game is gonna be real slow, and it makes it less enjoyable without a random aspect (items). In short, tripping was one of the main things that blocked brawl from being a Melee 2.

I don't think so., Tripping I think was to make the game seem more life like.I don't think it had anything to do with competitive. Brawl the game itself went to look more life like instead of cartoonish.Smash 4 the art style of cartoon ish more fun style characters returned

I don't really expect to get an answer to my question but I'll still post it just in case. During this stream you mentioned at some point that out of the top melee players you were the closest with M2K. Were you only talking about the 4 other gods or were you including Leffen as well? Since you appeared to be on good terms with him for most of your smash carrier and were geographically closer to him, Leffen seemed like the obvious choice.
