Karate what have you become? This waste of space involves a game of tag, bouncing, brushing your strike against your opponent, then turning your back screaming so you can convince the judges that you could of hurt him. Any kid who does this rubbish for self-defence is going to be in serious trouble if attacked.

My guy, competitive karate will never be the same as karate for self-defense purposes. Competitive karate focuses on speed and demonstrating strategic punches and kicks, because it is a performance of the martial art. I can see that it may be underwhelming for some audiences but it was never thought to be like the karate for self defense
