It's sad people don't know how to listen. The portrait feels cold since that was the main goal of mannerist portrait. They're not saying in any point that she is a bad mother or that she didn't take care of their children. She wanted to portray the Spanish aristocracy which was very strict. And that, mixed with mannerism give us this composition. They're talking about history of the movement too

It is NOT a cold portrait, it is a very typical formal portrait of the time, and with a 50% death rate amongst children,it shows a mother's pride in her first born son's survival of his first year. Also, in formal portraits, you were self-control led, not laughing like a fool! And it also took several sittings to do it, so you had to remain controlled. She had some ten children, and nursed them through illnesses, she was one very confident and great lady.

Sorry I see intellectuality I see quiet beauty I see strength commitment and discipline thru love that’s earned - Not given w/o reason like today! This is Five hundred years old imagine the society then? We should not ever describe a beautiful painting with the lies bigotry and deceptions of our own time but use this Strength in her gaze as a reflection of the era she’s a product of! I love your explanations of the religious statues and paintings but I think you’ve put your own preconceived notions from our own failing society into this which is unfair to different time and place !
