I never expected her to be so good, but indeed I love this interpretation. Donna Murphy was very stylized during her run but this fresh face totally surprised me. Kudos!

I could see Donna Murphy playing this part. I only know her from the ditcome What About Joan. It sounds like her type of role. Brooke was awesome in this! Totally surprised to see her in this kind of role. Kudos to her, lol! Looked like fun!

For those calling her a "square" and "stiff," she was supposed to be. It's called "playing a character." Ruth Sherwood was supposed to be that way, not a Busby Berkely Chorus Dancer.

I've never seen this number or known this show before, so at first I didn't really like the performance because I was uneducated about the context, but Brooke gave me such Sutton Foster vibes at that middle part, and then by closer to then end when they all broke out in their super technical-and-clean trained-dancer dancing with long lines and sharp turns, I started to love it. So interesting!

Crossover in the style of choreographer Michael Kidd at 2:59. The They even look they stepped out of "Guys and Dolls."

@@bigred8432 it is jazz dance so Fosse and Kidd overlap. The particular step is also reminiscent of Michael Kidd’s “Sadie Hawkin’s Ballet” but also has the ring of Fosse’s ‘s better known “sing sing sing with the swing.”

I actually find Brooke Shield's more natural approach to Ruth Sherwood to be better than Donna's more mannered and stylized version and I love Donna Murphy. Shields seems closer to Roz Russell's more natural comedic approach.

The show is a revival of a 50s musical "Wonderful Town" it's original lead was not a dancer per se but there is a strong dance element.

You watch this and realize (as if you'd forgotten) just what great means. I'm speaking of Rosalind Russell. How in the world does anyone get "gawky" or "square" from Shields' performance here? This is today's great? I prefer the real thing.

She's in great physical shape for her age (47), but she's really stiff... I recall when she was taking A LOT of dance classes as a child, yet couldn't really dance back then... even with all those lessons... she still can't dance
