I love my Brooks Ghost 14. I wear them pretty much every day to work since I like to take a lunch walk. They are comfortable and esthetically pleasing. Mine are black with some little white/grayish overlays

This is the perfect scenario for the Ghost! They’re comfortable enough for all day wear and to be used for exercise!

@@its_Matt_B_ Yes I have. I used to run in Asics Nimbus when they had a 13 mm drop and inevitably during a run my knees would have problems. I used to run in the Ghost shoes but I sort of stumbled on to the Saucony Endorphin Speeds and haven’t looked back. They are such fun to run in! 😀

@its_Matt_B_4 ай бұрын
I think you will like the Ghost 16 because they changed the midsole. It feels more like the Glycerin now, without paying Glycerin prices. I’ve also been enjoying the Mizuno Wave Rider 28. They added a softer foam to the heel which makes it a much better ride than before.

Thanks for review... How is the feel of the midsole ? Firm or bit of the chushy side ? 12mm drop is bit too much for me ... Thanks
@its_Matt_B_5 ай бұрын
Yeah, 12mm is definitely the top end of drops, although it's ideal for a lot of people! Brooks has done well with the midsole feeling. It's right in the middle of firm and squishy, which seems to be the sweet spot. It's soft enough where you could be comfortable spending all day in the shoe but not a level of softness that feels like it's sucking your energy!

I run in a brooks ghost(5 years). The tread on bottom came off from wear but i super glued it back on and it still works. Thinking about getting a new pair or the cascadia. I run on pavement and trail so im debating on the perfect shoe to own. Ghost 16, cascadia, or Pegasus trail running
@its_Matt_B_5 ай бұрын
If you don’t green run on roads and trails during the same run, it looks like the new Pegasus Trail 5 will be the best option out of those you listed.

Great review, would you choose it ahead of the Ghost max?, I ran in the 11,12 and 13 very comfortable shoes but I moved onto the Mach 4 and endorphin speed after that.
@its_Matt_B_5 ай бұрын
No, I think I would still go with the Ghost Max because I prefer the 6mm drop, although I do prefer the DNA Loft v3 in the Ghost 16 (the Max has DNA Loft v2). I expect the Max 2 will be out soon enough and that will cement my decision on the Max!

The drop on the shoe depends on the route I run if I’m doing a lot of up hill running I lean towards a 12 mil drop if I’m doing flats and downhills I lean towards a 4-5 mil drop

I got a pair of Ghost 16 as a gift for mentoring runners signed up to running store 5k program. They were size US11 and I normally wear US10 but they didn't feel that big. In fact, US10.5 would fit me perfectly in this shoe. In other words, I think Ghost 16 runs 0.5 size small. I liked the fact that DNA Loft v3. It will be durable for that thick rubber application but it also makes it quite heavy. I could exchange them for a different size, but after walking in them a bit, I felt that it was too much shoe for me and upper was too hot for Texas and I really didn't need it so I sent the pair to a family member in Washington, DC who wears US10.5 and he says he really liked the shoe and might buy a pair after this pair wears out. I think my personal preferred range is 6-8m drop.
@its_Matt_B_5 ай бұрын
Perhaps I always wear shoes that are slightly too big, but the Ghost 16 fits exactly as I expected it to based on previous Ghosts and Brooks shoes! Good on ya for sending your pair to a good home! I 100% agree about them being too hot for a summer in the south!

Just received mine today. Going to wear casually, but much softer feeling than the 15, which I returned. I hope they work for me as I prefer a shoe with a forefoot rocker.

👻 Brooks Ghost, along with NB 880, are at the heart of my running shoe rotation, covering those mid-week medium distance easy runs. While Ghost might not be the uber-light premium choice for fast run days, it is a very usable shoe for nearly every option. They’ve even served me well on well-groomed city trailways!

So true about the casual wear. I usually wait until the new model is out and buy the old model at a reduced price to bump around in. In late February I bought my third Ghost 15 thinking it was going to be months before the 16 came out. I run 50-60 miles in a month so I’m looking at a new pair of Brooks in November. Should I go with the Glycerin 21 or the Ghost 16? My wife tried on the Glycerin 20 and 21 and I think she’s going to go with the 21 due to the enhanced cushioning. Thoughts?

Hi Matt - Great review! I've been happily jumping rope with the Brooks Range 2 shoes (their beginner runner netural cushioned shoe that has been discontinued). I recently ordered a pair of the now yesterday's sauce Ghost 15 and I'm happy with that, too! When it's time for new jump rope shoes, I'll stick with the Ghost family. P.S. Drops don't seem to be an issue when jumping rope, at least not for me.

Brooks daily trainers seems to me like they would work well for jumping rope because they're so cushioned and supportive! My wife wears the Brooks Revel 5 for most runs and she loves them.

Hi Matt. I’ve not run in the ghost before but decided to pick up the 16 after seeing your review however after very positive first impressions I started to get some pain after running in my left Achilles. At first mild but getting worse the more I ran in the shoe. I stopped running in them , rested for a week and the pain went. I then ran a full week in my trusted triumph 20’s with no issues I then went back to the ghosts and the Achilles problem returned. I’m wondering if the rounded shape of the ghost 16 is not suited to my heal shape ? Would be interested in your opinion? Ian 🇬🇧
@its_Matt_B_2 ай бұрын
@@ianlowe4126 Ugh! Sorry to hear it, Ian, but I’m glad you’re able to get rid of the Achilles pain quite quickly. I’m a little surprised to hear you had Achilles pain because the 12mm drop in the Ghost is usually quite friendly to the Achilles. On the surface I don’t know exactly what could be causing the issue and you don’t need me to tell you to avoid whatever is causing you discomfort. Ultimately, we’re all a little different and shoes that work well for a lot of people doesn’t mean they’re going to work well for us. I’m most glad you can still run in your T20s! Are there other shoes that have worked well for you?

@@its_Matt_B_ hi Matt. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Yes it’s foxed me a tad as I’ve not suffered Achilles pain before the only thing I can see different with the ghost 16 is the rounded heal as apposed to the heal flare on my hoka Mach 5’s for eg. It is a good shoe for heel strikers and could work well, depending on your level of overpronation. Brooks also makes a GTS (go-to-support) version of some of their shoes, which will help control overpronation.

Great.. after shoes are retired from running , it moved to mowing the lawn… but I already have a pair for that (that’s nimbus 25) for that. So how many pairs of shoes do we need for mowing the lawn? … in then end, if we do lots of running, we are inevitably have lots of shoes for mowing the lawn. 😂😂😂
@its_Matt_B_5 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s certainly a dilemma. What makes it worse is that we retire our running shoes after a certain distance run in them, but there is no such limit for lawn mowing shoes. Over time our lawn mowing shoes increases at a faster rate than our running shoes. This is a real problem for me as I live in a maintenance free neighborhood so never mow my lawn. 🤷🏻♂️
