Science time. When you hit the ball, you transfer momentum from the putter to the ball. Momentum is the mass of an object multiplied by its velocity. If your putter weighs half as much, you have to swing it twice as hard/fast to put the same amount of momentum into the ball. (This is also why when you occasionally get given a 'professional' putter with a really heavy metal head, it can feel like just barely tapping the ball makes it ping off into the distance.) This is obviously a massive over-simplification of what's going on in the real world but when you struggle with a super-light putter, it's basically conservation of momentum at work.

My guess is that the plastic cover on the head of that club has separated from the core so the clicking sound if from the plastic hitting the core after the ball contacts the plastic.
