Thank you especially for the comments on Shakespeare. Dr. Kliman observes that Shakespeare somehow captures the rhythms of our minds. He adds that composers do it even better. In fact, there is a wonderful book about Shakespeare's astonishing use of technical musical terms to amplify the rhetoric of his words. Waldo, the author, says Shakespeare does this far more often than his contemporaries. And we know that the earliest poetry was always sung, so words and music were routinely united. I've read that nearly every major composer since Shakespeare's day has written music inspired by Shakespeare--another likely reflection of the inherent musicality of Shakespeare's words.
