Oh, it's not a tunnel, it's a "wormhole" Musk is a conman. Fortunately for him, Americans are gullible, their governments consider the safety of their citizens as a secondary consideration, way less important than making a buck. This tunnel would never even be considered in any other country outside the US. It's a death trap.

@ I think it’s slotted for 4000 cars per hour per tunnel. It’s designed to be an anti congestion solution. Since the tunnels are so small and transit points can be built anywhere taking up very small plots of land. I think it will absolutely be a hit and purposeful. Some cities, like Dallas are tapped out on traffic solutions. You could fairly quickly build 100 miles of tunnel all over the metroplex I’m not seeing the pointless of it, and neither did Las Vegas. Many other cities are already inquiring about.

@ At worst case, since cars are becoming more and more unaffordable to the general public, it will allow many to travel freely without unreliable and slow bussing systems, or expensive uber rides. I can’t see how it would be any worse than light rail systems and far cheaper.

It looks like a novelty ride. Eventually Tesla will get tired of being a sponsor. At that point it's either close it down or somehow convert it into an automated people mover, like they have for airport terminals.

The problem with that is that these tunnels are way to small for a people mover. So, at the end, it's just a waste of money and resources.

@@gloofisearch I expect Tesla will build a people mover that fits these tunnels. It will be a driverless van that holds about 20 people. But driverless taxis will share the tunnel with the people movers, providing point to point transportation between dozens of stations.

You do realize this is just a small portion that will very quickly cover the whole city. They are expanding over 89 miles to it and now they can do it quickly. And they already have shuttle vans created. The key is that the tunnels can be done quickly and cheaply anywhere. Earlier tunnels could not do this.

I understand your concern but this was thought of long before the tunnels were created they have An amazing system in case something like that ever does occur they prepared for it.What happens is immediate ventilation will suck the smoke out allowing passages to exit along with a system to other cars it's actually very safe and there is room for you to get out along the side of the car. It's much safer than a subway.

Pretty darn KOOL. This portends the future of ground transportation. These Tesla's will all be Robo's at some point. One day an entire city can have an underground network of Robo's to carry people around. A great alternative to pollution-thick busses and cab's. To / from airports will be one of the many applications this type of network can service.

The Vegas Loop is a modern engineering marvel, that Vegas Loop is! Cutting the Vegas Loop tunnel is similar to other tunnels, it’s just this one is named the Vegas Loop. Vegas Loop has clean air on top of happy faces down in the Vegas Loop. Vegas Loop has three areas currently: Vegas Loop Central, Vegas Loop South and Vegas Loop West which are all part of the Vegas Loop system.
