Back when this episode aired you couldn’t go anywhere without people talking about this episode I just remember this episode having such a huge impact on people I was in 9th grade at the time (now graduated oh how time flies) and I just remember hearing for an entire week about how Hershel was dead I had no clue on how the show would have a huge impact on all of us at the time.

R.I.P to Hershel great character who brought so much love his theme song R.I.P to the actor Scott Wilson who played this character and who sadly passed away from Leukemia 5 years ago Oct 6 2018 Age 76 He was the ultimate voice of reason right next to Dale and R.I.P to the Governor as well who was a great villain and did a great job at making us hate him great work by David Morrissey portraying this character.

Man. Season 4 might be my favorite season. It's so good. There's a whole back-half introducing, and saying goodbye to, some of my favorite characters. Some people dislike the Governor 2-parter, but I really love it. David Morrisey is such a great actor. And the song "Last Pale Light in the West" is so good.

Rip Hershel, Judith, The Governor, Luke, Molly and Julio who died in this episode, Luke and Molly were the 2 kids who took of running at 18:13, Julio was a background character, he was the one who flipped the picnic table and shot at the Governor’s men, he was shot in the back trying to flee to the bus, he died defending the prison he was in the background at 9:23 , the group is separated again Rick and Carl are on their own Daryl and Beth are on their own Carol is by herself Michonne is by herself Tyreese, Lizzie and Mika are on their own Maggie, Bob and Sasha are on their own Glenn, Ms McLeod, Mrs Richards, Jeanette and others are on the prison bus

The duality of Philip Blake is so amazing. I think he did really want to have a safe place for his new family, but he also couldn't let go of his need to destroy the group at the prison because that was the last reminder of what he had done before. He is a true psycho that used them as an excuse to justify the attempt to finish what he started

When i first watched this episode i was in SHAMBLES. Poor Herschel 😢 Maggie screaming at the fence, herschel trying to crawl away 😭 Carl was right, Rick gave too many chances to ppl that didn't deserve it and other ppl paid for it. It's really interesting seeing these early episodes in hindsight, and how the encounters/choices/relationships start shaping future seasons and characters. David Morrissey is such a great actor, i legit hated him so hard. I do admire how well he, Andrew Lincoln, Lauren Cohan, and Lennie James hide their accents. (Lauren's isn't strong but it's there).

"You can't be the good guy, and expect to live, not anymore" Shane summarized the first half of this season, Rick and The Governor wanted out of leadership and the violence. The Governor (Philip Blake) failed, and Rick failed. Rick returned to his survivalist methods when The Governor forced him to, and he became the leader again when he spoke for the group, he took the mantle. The Governor's story came full circle also, he lost his step daughter and he reacted the way he should have reacted to Penny's death, he prevented reanimation and then there was nothing left. Once he accepted that his daughter was dead all along, and that both of his families are gone, he didn't have a reason to live. He was right back where he started, no family and no purpose.

Comic Comparisons : in the comics It’s Tyreese who gets decapitated his comic counterpart is actually introduced much earlier than in the show before they get to the farm the battle for the prison goes down a bit different The Governor is presumed dead for a while before he randomly shows up at the prison gates It should be noted that the Governor never kills all of his people or burns down Woodbury so he still had an army with him him becoming Brian Heriot is completely unique to the show I can’t remember exactly but I think their first attack failed Nonetheless they eventually bust through and kill a lot of people Hershel does die in this battle in the comics but not in the same way He begs to be killed after his son is shot right in front of him and the Governor grants him that Rick tries to escape with Lori and Judith but Lori who is carrying Judith is shot and falls to the ground killing both her and the baby after the Governor successfully wins the prison Lily who was already a member of Woodbury and dealt the killing shot on Lori realizes she also killed a baby and gets mad at the Governor when the Governor shows no remorse she shoots him dead in the head after that nothing more is said about the Woodbury group.

Rick asked michonne if she needed help and she said no, but then invited Hershal. Plus michonne on her knees next to someone about to die….if only that only happens once… 😢

In the governors defense, he actually originally wasn’t going to do any of this. The only thing he wanted was the safety of his family of his new family by any means necessary what triggered it was when Martinez said that he wasn’t sure that he could keep the camp safe that was the reason why the governor basically gave up on following the leaders of the camp. The second time that it caused him to give up on them was when Pete showed weakness that ultimately led him to not wanting to be part of the group however, since there was no way to truly escape, he basically gave up and said you know what it’s time for me to take over and of course, the title basically tells that the governor was too far gone to turn his life around

Whew, halfway through season 4. There's only a couple deaths in the whole show that got a blood curdling scream out of me, and Hershel's death is one of them. Talk about heart broken lol. I was hurting for sure. I'm excited to get into the back half of season 4. This is the first time that our group is so split up and broken. We've literally just lost everything. Sorry if I said this already and forgot, lol. Imo, what Carol did was wrong, whether or not it would have worked. Rick was also wrong. She had no right to kill Karen and David. Rick had not right to banish Carol. They both took matters into their own hands, when both decisions should have been left to the council. Carol gave Karen and David a death sentence. Rick gave Carol what he believed would be a death sentence. Daryl even called him out on it. When Rick insisted Carol would survive, Daryl told him to "stop saying it like you don't believe it." Despite what Rick said (trying to convince himself as much as Daryl) he didn't really believe she would be okay on her own. It's a big part of why he felt torn about it, and it's one of the things I love most about this show. It's not always as simple as one side being right and the other side being wrong. They were both right (as far as having strong, motivating reasons for their actions), but they were also both wrong.

The gov rolled a 20 on persuasion, had the numbers, had a tank, hit a double crit on Rick and still lost. LOSER! Fought so many tears back for Hershel but Judiths bloody empty seat put me down. I was a total Lori this episode and hated how rational RIck was being. I mean honestly he wasn't wrong for trying but maybe if he'd shot gov in the face it could have stunned his army for enough time. mvps; Daryl, Michonne, and "New Penny" because of Make a Wish reasons. Worst; New Andrea, Tank guy, the gov. Rick gets honorably mentioned on both lists for "trying."

Literally one of the best episodes of the series still to this day Carl & Rick’s performance at the end of the episode when they realize Judith was eaten right out of her car seat STILL gives me chills to this day I’m so excited for you guys to continue this show I feel so bad for everyone but Carl especially because he tried warning Rick about the Governor & told Daryl he had a shot & they just lost everything Within a couple months he lost his uncle Shane had to put the Walker one down after Rick killed him lost his Mom Lori & had to put her down & now lost the prison and nearly everyone there😭
