I am a white man who is deeply in community with mostly black people, and my greatest failing continues to be my lack of rhythm. I love rap, love music, love all sorts of things that involve rhythm, but I just don't have it. Maybe if I had learned Irish dancing as a kid maybe that wouldn't be the case. My family was proud of being Irish, but as you said we were white first. And whiteness is a desert of culture. Like you said, in the most extreme "white" spaces the only emotions you can express are anger and victory. In terms of one of the places where I get community with the white people in my life, it is actually through tabletop roleplay gaming like D&D. Funnily enough it is a way for all sorts of people to grow and learn and put themselves in the shoes of other people. I GM for like 4 campaigns that are going right now with different groups of people, most of whom are white, and use it as a vehicle to explore the real problems in the world.
