Anna, I got my 150 knitting machine yesterday!!!! I am so over the moon and excited about it . I watched so many of your videos before getting it and was off and running when it came still playing with it had to thank you and all the recommendations you give us out here. I bought a lot of stuff to go with the machine I see you show on your links too. So I was ready . I still have to play with the Insatria carriage but I'm just familiarizing myself with everything. I have been crying wanting the 4.5 small gauge machines that I cant afford LOL and when I got this it does just want I wanted I don't need to get a smaller gauge to cause this is it. Has all the bells and whistles. Thank you so much for your channel and recommendations and you're answering my questions on everything. Because of you, I made the right choice in what I purchased. I love those bobin things you recommend I had my yarn all ready for when the machine came. Cant wait to show you my( first something not sure yet but whatever it is )I make on it

Hi Anna, just to let you know I do believe that if you use the knitleader for bulky knits you have to pull the metal lug out of the tripper arm on the knitleader and put it into the hole on the right of the tripper, this I believe does a double movement. I do have one of these and have used it in the past and do remember moving this over. 👍😄 Hope this helps.
@AnnaHaferman2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true. The bulky carriage also has two trippers on it so the lever gets hit twice per row. I'm not at my machine right now and I often have to refresh my memory when I sit down at the machine. This video was basically just to show that you could set up a Knitleader for use with an LK 150. A lot of people are looking for the Silver Reed version, but they are a lot less common, so I wanted to show that it was possible to use the much more common Brother version. Thanks for watching!

Very interesting. Just one thing to keep in mind, the Brother Knit Leader is calibrated to advance to the measurements entered into the row scale, that many cms and mms, every 60 rows, for standard gauge machines. So you would have to do your swatch, measured over 60 rows, or 30 rows and have the knit leader trip twice per row, like for the 9mm chunky Brothers. The LK150 gives instructions for a swatch measured over 50 rows, so it’s just something to be aware of. Hope this helps. I actually have the KR11 Knit Contour, which was designed for the LK150 and more modern Silver Reed machines but this is not available any more and can be expensive when you can get hold of one. So this would be a great alternative.
@AnnaHaferman2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, it’s all just math. I haven’t used it in a while so I may not remember all the details, but I showed in the video how to get it to trip twice per row (like the 260 does) or if you don’t want to do that, draw the pattern in half scale, etc.
@AnnaHaferman2 жыл бұрын
Also, I just got a KR10 (very similar to KR 11) and had to fabricate a mylar with the Cricut, print and laminate the stitch scales, etc. I like it for the LK 150 because it takes up a lot less space.

Thank you! I made a 60x40 swatch on a standard machine but turning into a bulky by skipping every needle. Then my mind was spinning when the rulers didn’t have numbers that high so I divided the numbers in half. It’s worked! But it was challenging since increasing or decreasing I had to many times add one and not 2 needles. Thanks for your suggestions I think it will be easier your way!😊

Genius! I never took to using my Knitleader though. In the places where it should be the most useful, raglan shaping, for example, I never found it that useful because it doesn't always space the decrease out evenly. Same for a round neck. I prefer to cast off or hold a few stitches in the centre of the neck and then make an even, gentle curve but the KL will have you decreasing more erratically which doesn't always make for good-looking shaping. My preference is to do the calculations myself.
@AnnaHaferman2 ай бұрын
I use mine when making sweaters to get the number of needles to cast on and length right. I use it as a guide as to when to decrease and shape but also make executive decisions along the way. One thing you can do is is "air knit" with it to come up with a pattern before you actually use yarn. This is also helpful when coming up with a pattern in different sizes without actually knitting each size.

Thankyou Anna,very interesting. I have just got a KR 7 going withy LK 140, but as I have a KL116 too it's good to know it can be made to work with the Lk140/150. And thanks for showing how to remove the mast fitment so that it can be used either side; I didn't know you could do that! I've still got to learn a lot about charting devices but I'm enjoying the challenge!
@AnnaHaferman2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I saw your post in the charting group on Facebook and that's what inspired me to try the Brother Knitleader. I started by looking for a KR 7 but I didn't like the price. For some reason, I have six Knitleaders (need to get rid of a few) and I thought why not try it? It turned out to be really easy!

Thank you for yet another great video! I’ve been looking at buying a kr10 but they are so expensive! And I’m afraid I won’t understand how to use it. This looks like a better option to start with and I can probably use it with my lk100!!

One great thing about the KL116 is that they are plentiful and inexpensive. They also allow you to draw your sweater full size, so it's easy to trace an existing sweater or pattern without having to do a lot of conversions.

You can use the standard gauge scales but you would have to do the math. I would have to have it in front of me to explain how to do it, though.
