Brother PocketJet 623 Tattoo Stencil Machine

Is there a way to use this as a regular stencil machine to make a stencil of a hand drawn design or is it only compatible with software? Thanks.

Good afternoon there is a time ago I bought a pocket jet pj722 to use in tattoo stencil I bought the right paper and good quality but the printer ends up wrapping the thermal paper in the printer damaging the paper and printing the printer is new and I would not use it very much to know how to solve this problem ?thanks.

i too recently bought this printer. i have knowledge in photoshop, computing, and tattooing. i have no idea if i have a bad unit or what. because there is zero info out there that i can find to help me get the settings right on this thing. frustrating. i would pay for a tutorial at this point to get my moneys worth

PryMate #K66317 it’s all in the contrast. And what dither selection you use. It takes a lot of trial and error to get this thing to work right. Then when you do. Applying the stencil without messing it up is a bi...h. Then the first time your ink hits the stencil your stencils gone. I just went and bought a cheap copier stencil printer. It works great. There like a hundred bucks or so Worldwidetattoosupply has them you can also find them on the web. Good luck

I'm about to take the plunge and buy one of these but one thing keeps bugging me, when doing something realistic like a portrait do feel like there is way too much carbon on the skin? Seems like things could get messy fast and hinder you more than help you, any advice?

Experienced many problems as well! However, with much persistency and trial and error, managed to make it work great. Running MacOS 10 and using Brothers PocketJet-722 with Spirits reproFX. - Download Brother Driver support.brother.com/g/b/downloadend.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=pj722eus&os=10031&dlid=dlfp100325_000&flang=178&type3=462 - Turn on and plug in printer - Locate Brother folder in applications>Printer Setting Tool>Printer Setting Tool - Print Setting Tab>make sure Stencil Paper Mode is ON - I also adjusted the Density to 3, but 2 and 1 worked for me as well - Adjusting the Print Speed manages the quality of the detail (slow=high, fast=low) - Make sure you click Apply Settings to the Printer - Printer Settings Tab>Auto Sensor Adjust>follow instructions - I have JPEG Printing Setting: Error Diffusion (best for detailed work and shading) - Apply Settings to the Printer (yes, again) - I would then Export the settings and make adjustments as needed for whatever you may be using - If using Photoshop, make adjustments to the contrast and brightness as needed, save as JPEG file - Print from JPEG file - Layout>check Flip Horizontally - Advanced: I left the Density and Printer Speed set to Printer Default. In my trials, Dither would produce darker copies than Error Diffusion. But with the settings adjusted in the Brother folder already, you should be able to do one of each to see what works best for you. Best of luck! ~ Andrew, RicRoks Tattoos

I love this concept, but it seems like you would go through a lot of thermal paper having to use an entire page for one small design. It doesn't seem very efficient for shop use. I could be wrong.

Spiro Kambitsis - I always place my piece far down in photoshop, that way you print out only at the bottom of the thermal paper, and you can re-use it. But then you need to move it up on the page (in photoshop). A tip is that always use a ordinary paper afterwards, so the printer can drag it through. It's a bit tricky, but still saves ALOT of time.

Spiro Kambitsis You can always hand stencil little stuff too, I find its quicker to hand stencil a name or something small than to use the thermo.

+Spiro Kambitsis u have to put the pic at the end of the paper so its print right there where u can cut it of and still use the rest of your stencilpaper, work your way up on it, thats the way i do it to use most of the stencilpaper

Waste of money, sent it back for a full refund, chewed over and over again, no matter what setting you have the density or the opacity, total waste of time and money. Teething problems? shouldn`t be an issue with something that costs so much, they should`ve had all sorted before putting it on the market.

hay i was wondering if you could help me. iv recently got the brother pocketjet 673, and im having a right nightmare trying to use it for my stencils , it seems to start printing the the spirit paper just gets stuck and the whole thing just jams up. im at my wits end trying to get any info

I see a lot of negative experiences. Beware that this is a machine pretty much only used in law enforcement to print tickets, so very little has been done to make it user friendly. There is a free config. software on the Brother website to set the actual intensity (amount of heat emitted per pixel).

never purchase a spirit pocketjet. They are overpriced and exactly the same if purchased from brother. Only difference with spirit pocketjet is the print density setting is lower. THIS SETTING CAN BE CHANGED BY ANYONE IN JUST MINUTES WITH THE BROTHER PRINTER SETTINGS TOOL, download it in the drivers page. Save yourself $100 or more and purchase from brother and adjust the printer settings yourself.

This machine is horrendous considering the price. Firstly the image needs to be flipped every time you prints it. Secondly if you don’t pull it while it’s printing it nearly always just chews the stencil paper up. The much cheaper alternative on eBay or Amazon is far far better and cost effective. Stay away
