Brother Signature 510 Typewriter Review: An Olympic Rivalry

i bought one of these yesterday on facebook market place, cant find much info about the 510 cause its lost in a sea of other models, but this video was super informative about all the features. My 510 is a 1964 and when you got to the platten knob, i looked at mine and it didnt have the button on the left knob, took me a while to realize its a pull out, thought i broke it lol. part of the reason i bought it was because it has a lot of the features my olympia electric has, the card guides with the holes for drawing lines i especially love, and both are script with different typefaces, but this one has the added benefit of being a manual for outdoor fun.

Thanks for the tip on the spring for making the touch a little softer. Will try it on my JP-3 Opus 900 model, which is a Deluxe with a paper bail. Daniel

The JP-3 might have been going after the Royal Safari in terms of features in my opinion. The lack of a paper bail.in favor of a substantial card guide is a particular giveaway.

My own JP-3 has a paper bail. It's an Opus 900 model.

How did you source the rubber replacement parts? Just bought a 513 the other day that is in pretty good shape but what you mentioned about the rubber is true - I'd love to replace them like you did.

Ace hardware or similar has a whole wall of rubber grommets. Also silicone tubing

11:36 the spring pulls the ribbon vibrator down. Disconnecting it slows an already slow machine down further. The 510/D is no SM-9.

Yes, this machine uses standard "universal" ribbon that is still available online.
