Brothers REACT to Rush: The Camera Eye (Live 2011, Time Machine Tour)

I saw Rush on every UK tour since 1981 and I thought the Time Machine tour had the most energy of all their post-2000 tours. A lot of fans of early Rush who had maybe lost touch with Rush after Moving Pictures came out to hear the album in full, and the anticipation in the crowd and coming from the stage was electric. "Excitement so thick you can cut it with a knife!"

This is one of my favorites of their ridiculously deep repertoire and the fact that they didn’t miss at all - on such a complex, long song is a testament to their unparalleled talent. The best classic rock group of all time and I don’t think it’s particularly close.

I'm with the one brother. When I was a kid I got "Moving Pictures" shortly after its release. I listened to this song uncountable times & always liked it but not like I do now after recently rediscovering it with a more deep listen due to concert footage & reaction videos posted on KZbin. This really is a masterpiece.

I was part of that 'second' Glasgow chorus. Also saw them play Camera Eye on Time Machine in Glasgow in 2011

For me this is actually the best song on Moving Pictures. The Side 1 stuff is all as great as everyone says, but it's also all been played to death. The smaller top keyboard is a Moog Little Phatty. It's used for songs that originally had Minimoog solos including A Farewell to Kings, Tom Sawyer, and Subdivisions. It's the only one of the two keyboards that actually is generating its own sounds. The 88 key keyboard is one of the controllers for Apple's MainStage software on a MacBook Pro backstage. For the unfamiliar, MainStage lets you define configurations of VST or AU instrument and effect plug-ins for each song. For each song, every key/pedal/drum pad around the stage can be set up to either just play a note normally or trigger a sequence. It's like they made the software for Rush (and given that one of Apple's vice presidents is known for sneaking Rush references into their big press events, possibly intentionally so). Alex has his own separate MainStage setup for his guitar effects, so he was able to stop dealing with sometimes flaky 20+ year old pedals and rack effects and just let the Mac handle everything.

I've heard that as well, many played or preferred side 1 of the album. Since Camera Eye was my favorite song off the album, side 2 got the most play. Going back to the 80's, Camera Eye was like ear candy for me. The Time Machine Tour was the first time I ever got to see it live, the highlight for me was seeing both Camera Eye and Witch Hunt live. Man I love Rush, absolutely no drop off from the studio version other then the vocals, but that's to be expected given Geddy's age. On a separate note, I know Geddy also uses a footpedal to play sustained/droned notes.
