+Phillip I'm from the UK as well, London, and my mother was from Tredegar Wales. I agree with you, the standard of music back in those days was so much higher than today. So sorry to hear Louis Johnson has passed. It's scary because he was younger than I am. Tonight I was just surfing the old hits on, youtube and I found out two great performers have passed. The other one was Renee Diggs from the group Starpoint. A lady with a beautiful voice, who was very easy on the eyes. Her group were also great musicians, like the Brothers Johnson.

Shout out to Rod Temperton, a white brother from Great Britain, originally the keyboardist and songwriter of 80's R&B group Heatwave, for writing this track as well as many other famous funk and R&B tracks of the late 70s and early 80s, including Give Me the Night (George Benson), several tracks on Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall' and 'Thriller' albums, including 'Thriller' itself! Goes to show you that music has no race or color.

There was a plan with the crappy music they make today. Bring people down on purpose, dont listen to it. Rap music to bring the worst out in people..Ask yourself why black people went from being these amazing singers and musicians to just obscenity producers. They are talented with a lot of amazing abilities but the nefarious ones dont want humanity to love and care for each other, they want division.

It has been done to them, they need to reclaim back their power. Not in an aggressive, divisive way, but recapture the love, remember who they are, representatives of God on earth. Happiness will never come from fighting and anger, it comes from taking responsibility for oneself and bringing communities together, following the decency of the past, and supporting each other.

Well, that was because of his own rising popularity that began with his 1979 solo album, Off the Wall. Interestingly enough, he did co-write "This Had to Be" with the two Johnson brothers, and then, after the Brothers Johnson had split in 1982, he hired Louis Johnson to play bass on his second solo album, Thriller. The other connection between Jackson and the Brothers Johnson: Quincy Jones, who also produced Jackson's Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad. Light Up the Night! was the last Brothers Johnson album he had produced, and when he had left A&M Records (the Brothers Johnson's label) he was contractually not allowed to have any dealings with the brothers.

So sad to hear of the passing of Rod Temperton, the man who was the sound of the 80's. He wrote the sound track to my life. I hear the songs he wrote - like this one - and I get such a poignant burst of nostalgia...makes me cry. Just takes me back to when I was aged 20... life was a mix; of dressing to the ' new romantic' nines for all day discos - with no worries in my world - and the promise of a fantastic adventure still ahead of me. I never had a broken heart or gave one, still had all my loved ones round me and I was the happiest I have ever been in my life. Wish I could go back and live every precious moment of those years again. We who were having the time of our young lives in the eighties were surely the luckiest of all.

I was at the mall yesterday when this was playing. I immediately put more shake in my strut. Then 30 seconds later busted out some random moves. Customers thought I was a nut. This is infectious. But in a good way😊

TOTALLY underestimated and uncredited enough for his work, Rod Temperton was a genius, I can't imagine what it must have been like for all the Funky Black dudes (no offence) at the time to see this thin "average Joe" Englishman knocking out music and lyrics of this calibre must have been pretty heartbreaking to some. RIP Rod Temperton

I'd be honored if some fans of late 70s/early 80s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of SEPTEMBER by Earth Wind & Fire and JUST ONCE by James Ingram & Quincy Jones on my YT channel in tribute to Maurice White and James Ingram, 2 iconic vocalists of that period who recently left us. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
