Apparently sonya basically shut her family off to pursue a career as a pop star. Thank the lord because can you imagine a world without her and her voice?

Being an Echobelly fan I can see her shutting off her family. The early singles and the first album are all about finding her power as a women and her escape from patriarchal and religious influences. I was lucky enough to see their first US show (I think.. Troubadour opening for Velocity Girl). I am so happy she and Glenn found each other and continue to do what they do.

I turned 23 that spring, just about 4 full months before "On" officially dropped, and began my senior year at Uni that September. I either read about the album in one of the many Alt music mags I either bought or read at the time, or heard a track - likely "Kings of the Kerb" - on a CD sampler (CMJ, possibly?). Needless to say, it wasn't long before I bought my own copy of the album, and played the heck out of it, would this thing one of my favourite tracks on a great album all around. I'm at a point in my existence where I've been reflecting on my past lives a lot lately. The older I get, and the more I've managed to lose - ranging from the deaths of both parents and all the canine companions that had been part of the family, to a fractured/virtually non-existent/estranged adult relationship with my younger (and only) sibling, the more I long to return to the mindset of that era, even if I can't go back in time and do things over or differently. From this considerable chronological gulf between now and then, it seems to have been more like an parallel universe or some fantasy, but better than what this 21st century has shaped up to be for me. We really did have it too good for too brief a moment at that time; perhaps the last best one to have been a young adult. I'm glad that Sonya and company were a significant part of it.

I was mid teens in the mid 90s. Music meant everything there wasn’t anything else. Wasn’t an out and out fan boy of Echobelly but this tune is one of my all time favourites and looking back realising how good this band were, guitar playing is phenomenal, ambiguous lyrics, vocal melody it’s just gorgeous
@RickTransit3 жыл бұрын
I've loved this tune for quarter of a century or so, but never heard a live version before - wow! Sonya's voice is fantastic and Glenn covers the slide guitar on the original record brilliantly. What a band!

Sonya is a million times hotter here standing still with a leather jacket zipped all the way to the top. Then Miley Cyrus wearing next to nothing and twerking could ever be. Such an amazing powerful voice for some who looks so timid too.

Echobelly were one of those excellent 90's Britpop bands who never really received the recognition that the likes of Oasis, Radiohead, and the overrated Blur received but the still delightful Sonya and Glenn are back with a brilliant new album "Anarchy and Alchemy"
Harriet wheeler, skye Edwards, Geri Soriano lightwood, and Sonya aurora madan If you are mentioned in this group, you are truly special indeed I purchased ego on a whim when it came out, I knew nothing of the band-smart move young man, smart move

I saw them supporting REM on the Monster Tour (maybe 1996 - 7 Hull Football Stadium?) and they were excellent - better than REM. It was an eventful gig as I remember Deb SMITH falling off the edge of the stage about a 5m drop. She got up, dusted herself off and climbed back onto the stage...and got a massive cheer as she proceeded to drink from a beer bottle and smoke a cig as she raised her arms in the air. The song continued throughout the incident and it was brilliant, really got the crowd involved and was my lasting memory of the day (Apart from the crowd continuously heckling the Beautiful South (2nd on the Bill) between songs because they were shit). THe chorus is not that familiar, but the opening verse is. I feel like I haven't heard this song in 25 years, which is likely. Reminds me of Catherine Wheel, a band I really adore. THis style should come back. Love shoegaze guitar and melodies. THis is not a great sounding transfer, and not doing this song justice.
