Bro watch is the Christmas gift that keeps on giving.

I recently found out that some of the traffic I'd gotten on a video of mine came from a bro-dude video called 6 Books EVERY MAN Must Read (A Guide To BECOMING A MAN). They were all biographies, but biographies on people like Napoleon and Samuel Zemurray (the man responsible for turning several South American countries into banana republics), and held these types up as people that men should seek to emulate! For no other reason than that they were greedy, power-obsessed lunatics that got what they wanted and made it to the top at the cost of countless lives ruined. Really disheartening to see how lacking empathy and measuring your life in terms of how much wealth you can accumulate are being held up as virtues--and that so many fall for it. Great to see someone giving a piece of their mind about it!

I haven't read Antifragile, which you call "idiotic" here and yet was no. 2 on your best nonfiction of 2012 list. You said it was a book to argue and disagree with (in a good way) back then; when did you finally get sick of it? It might be interesting and fun to make a video on how books fare over time, with specific references to your own lists. I know, I know... I'm asking for another present on Christmas - shameful of me! I hope you are having a good one.

Erasmus, hanging around behind you, doesn't know whether to laugh or to cry. Three words or phrases (besides "bro") that I detest: "heuristics," "moving forward," and "at the end of the day." You don't quote Vicino as having used that third one, but I'll bet he did.

Great to hear someone go after the grifters. They dont want to go inward, they want the appearance of someone who is capable of doing such a thing.

When these people talk about reading, do they mean sitting with a book and inputting the words through their eyeballs, or do they mean audio book listening, probably at 2x speed? The latter for me does not qualify as reading. Otherwise everyone I've ever listened to could be considered as me having read their minds.

Great video! Do reread a dozen books a year. It's a good idea. Just make sure that what you read has value to you. Just So Stories (Kipling) or The Celebrated Jumping Frog (Mark Twain) give me pleasure, so they clearly have value to me. So do Once Upon A Town (Bob Greene) and Death Valley (Bourke Lee). So does Lord of the Rings.

I am not a dude. I once had a dude try to sell me on their set of culty self-help books. I stared hard at them for a long time. I didn't know what a cult was at the time. The whole setup just seemed really manipulative. I need to re-read some books. I haven't re-read any books in the last few years since I got back into reading. I've been building up a core of books I'd like to read again.
